OSCAR Thomas admits he is excited by the prospect of playing alongside Lee Gaskell at Odsal next season.

Thomas begins training with the Bulls today following his close-season move from London Broncos and recent involvement in Scotland’s European Championship campaign.

The half-back played in all three games against Wales, Ireland and France as a young Bravehearts side suffered three straight defeats.

Thomas impressed for the Broncos last term and his arrival at Bradford on a two-year deal could see him push for a half-back spot.

Although the Bulls are scouring the market for another playmaker following the recent departure of Harry Siejka, Thomas is keen to push his own claims for regular first-team rugby.

The 21-year-old, who can also play full back, said: “Ideally I want to be starting as many games as possible.

“I’m young and am still developing as a player, but I want to be playing in the first-team every week.

“I like playing all over the place, but it would be nice to play half back and I feel more comfortable there than any other position.

“I prefer stand-off and I know that's Lee Gaskell position, but it's more about how the two half-backs click and play together. It depends how he wants to play and how my game suits him.

“I guess it will pan out as we work through pre-season. I’m really looking forward to watching Gaskell in training and learning from him in the next two years.”

Thomas played against the Bulls twice last season and he added: “Gaskell was dominant in both games – everything Bradford did came through him.

“If they scored a try, Gaskell would be involved in some way. He’s a great player and definitely deserved the Championship Player of the Year award.”

Thomas’ move up north has reunited him with several familiar faces.

He played with Dale Ferguson, Danny Addy and fellow new recruit Jonathan Walker for Scotland during the recent autumn internationals.

He also played with Omari Caro at London and is now sharing an apartment with the Bulls winger in the heart of Bradford.

Thomas said: “I’m living with Omari in Little Germany, which is great because we’re right next to the new Broadway shopping centre.

“I’m looking forward to starting life as a Bradford player and the fact I know a few of the lads already can only help.

“Danny and Fergie are top players and I think Jonny Walker will prove a very good signing for us too.

“I played with him for London and Scotland and we’re good mates.

“I think he will bring a lot of aggression to the team and he carries the ball strongly all the time.”
