NEW Bulls recruit Kurt Haggerty reckons his versatility will help his cause as he bids to establish himself at Odsal in 2016.

The back-rower has signed from Championship rivals Leigh on a one-year deal and will push for a starting spot in the pack.

The St Helens academy product has an impressive offloading game and can also kick well close to the try line, with many Leigh fans disappointed at his defection across the Pennines.

But the Centurions’ loss promises to be Bradford’s gain, with Haggerty saying: “I played a lot in the second row for Leigh last season but I can also fill in at loose forward and mix it in the middle too.

“I quite enjoy that, and it really helps to have that versatility because it means you’re up for selection in more than one position. That can only aid your cause.”

Bulls managing director Steve Ferres and head coach Jimmy Lowes have signed six new players since the end of last season.

Haggerty became the latest new recruit this week, following in the footsteps of Johnny Campbell, Oscar Thomas, Jonathan Walker, Mitch Clark and Kris Welham.

Haggerty added: “I’ve spoken to Jimmy and Steve and they know a bit about me as a player.

“They like me and that’s why they have signed me, so I need to prove to them what I can do.

“Hopefully I’ll do enough to play regularly for the Bulls this coming season.

“I know Lee Gaskell and I know how highly respected he is at Bradford along with Paul Clough.

“I've travelled in with Matty Blythe this week and he’s another very good player, so there is plenty of quality in the squad.

“I’m going to have to work really hard to force my way into the team.

“From there I can hopefully keep my spot and help Bradford get back into Super League.”

Meanwhile, Bradford-born hooker Liam Hood has headed to Australia to play for Queensland team Burdekin Roosters following his release from Salford.

The former Dudley Hill and Stanningley junior came through the professional ranks at Leeds Rhinos and has also had spells at Dewsbury and Hunslet.
