BULLS star Omari Caro has been named in a 53-man train-on squad for the 2017 World Cup Qualifiers against USA and Canada in Florida next month.

Caro joined Bradford in July on a short-term contract and sufficiently impressed head coach Jimmy Lowes to earn a 12-month deal for the 2016 campaign.

The former London and Hull KR winger has represented Jamaica before and will hope to play his part in their upcoming campaign.

Cougars trio Hamish Barnes, Ross Peltier and Jode Sheriffe have also been named in the squad.

Head coach Romeo Monteith believes the players selected have the right blend of experience, enthusiasm and commitment to compete, and the numbers show how the sport is taking hold in the Caribbean.

The Reggae Warriors’ boss said: “We have players who understand each other because they have been together in prior national teams since 2011.

“And we are depending on our senior players to step up and guide any new additions to the group and display the type of bravery and discipline needed to compete against stronger opposition.”

Monteith added: “The key word in our camp right now is pride, in the way we train and play, and by the time the final 20 is named we hope to have a solid set of guys willing to lay it all on the line for Jamaica.

“The size of the initial squad means that we have flexibility and can cover any eventuality.

“We have several key players going in for US visas and there is never a guarantee at the Embassy. We need cover in case applications are denied and for the possibility of injuries and work places pulling prior approval for players to go on tour. All these issues have previously affected us.”

Former Bradford junior Joel Farrell, now at Dewsbury, is also included in the squad along with Batley pair Alex Brown and Wayne Reittie.

Meanwhile, Bradford Salem forward Chad Bain, who previously played in the 13-man code for Bradford Dudley Hill, has been named in the Canadian Wolverines' train-on squad for next month's 2017 World Cup qualifiers in Florida.

Canada will take part in the Americas Qualifying Tournament, facing Jamaica on Tuesday, December 8 in Deland, and the United States on Saturday, December 12 in Jacksonville.

Jarrod Sammut, meanwhile, has again been linked with a return to Odsal but he is not thought to be currently on the Bulls' radar.
