ADRIAN Purtell would be the ideal choice as Bulls captain for the 2016 campaign.

That is the view of star man Lee Gaskell, who feels the Australian's leadership qualities and influence on the team would be worthy of the armband.

Purtell again proved one of Bradford's most influential and consistent performers in 2015, making 26 appearances and scoring 16 tries.

He largely played in the centres but was also deployed at stand-off when Gaskell or Harry Siejka were absent through injury.

With last year's captain Chev Walker having now retired, Gaskell feels Purtell is ready to step up to the plate if Jimmy Lowes appoints him in the role.

Purtell captained the side at times last season due to Walker's injuries and is now entering his fifth season at Odsal.

Gaskell said: "I personally think Purts would be a very good candidate for the captaincy.

"He's a good leader and has been there and done it both here and in Australia.

"He's got the respect of all the boys and if I was picking the captain it would definitely be someone like him.

"He again showed his value to the team last season with the contribution he made on and off the field."

Meanwhile, the Bulls continue to be strongly linked with a move for Pita Godinet following Siejka's departure.

Godinet has the ability to play half-back and hooker and last week confirmed he had left Wakefield.

The New Zealand-born 27-year-old represented Samoa during the 2013 World Cup and has spent the past two seasons with the Wildcats.
