LEE Gaskell will play no part against Salford after revealing the injury he sustained at Wakefield has left him with bruised kidneys and still coughing up blood.

The Bulls stand-off was forced off after just ten minutes of last weekend’s defeat at Belle Vue after colliding with a post as he attempted to prevent a try.

He was later taken to hospital and the injury will keep him out of Sunday’s visit of the Red Devils, although he should be fit to face Widnes in the Bulls’ next outing.

It was the second year running that Gaskell had been badly injured at Wakefield and he said: “As I went to make the tackle, my back has hit the post and wrapped around it.

“As soon as I did it, I got a sharp pain inside my body and felt like I was going to be sick.

“Then I was sick and quickly realised it was pure blood, so I knew something wasn’t right.

“I went to the changing room, carried on coughing blood, and because I was so badly winded I was struggling to breathe as well.

“I went to hospital in Wakefield for blood tests and an x-ray, and I’ve got bruised kidneys and am still coughing up blood now.

“Hopefully that will settle down soon but I’ve not trained at all this week because the doctor has told me to rest so the bleeding can stop.

“It’s disappointing I miss this week but I should be back for the Widnes game.”

Despite his latest injury setback, Gaskell is remaining in good spirits and quipped: “When I next sign a contract I’m going to stipulate that I don’t have to play against Wakefield at Belle Vue!”

Danny Williams is expected to miss out this weekend due to injury but Jake Mullaney, another former Salford man, should return and Dane Nielsen will make his debut, with Harry Siejka set to start in the halves.

Adrian Purtell will go into the game having agreed a contract extension which will keep at Odsal until the end of 2017.

The Australian centre, who arrived from Penrith ahead of the 2012 campaign, said: “I’m over the moon to be staying at Bradford because I’ve really enjoyed my time here.

“A couple of Championship clubs sounded me out but I was quite honest with them and said if I was going to sign for a Championship team at the moment it would be Bradford.

“I’m comfortable here – I like the squad, I like the fans and I like what the club has done for me since I’ve been here, so it was a no-brainer to stay.”

Purtell clinched the deal without an agent after representing himself during contract talks.

He said: “It was a bit nerve-wracking but I enjoyed it and I think it will set me in good stead for life after rugby.”
