THE RFL has launched a formal investigation into alleged racial chanting during last Saturday’s visit of the Bulls.

The Wildcats announced earlier this week they were probing “misconduct and unacceptable behaviour of spectators” at Belle Vue.

Now the RFL are to probe a number of incidents which the match commissioner is believed to have included in his post-match report to the governing body.

Wakefield chairman Michael Carter said his club would work their stewarding company, West Yorkshire Police and the RFL to identify the perpetrators and ban them for life.

Carter said: “We have received reports of alleged disorder during the game on Saturday.

“As a club we will not tolerate such things and will cooperate fully with any investigation.

“I will not tolerate any form of abuse, and if there are culprits who are proven to be guilty of this, they will be banned from ever attending another game in which this club plays.

“It is extremely sad in this day and age that a small minority can tarnish the event.

“The overwhelming majority of both sets of supporters mixed freely on the day and created an excellent atmosphere befitting this great sport.

“It is a great shame that there may be those that cannot conduct themselves in a manner befitting the 21st century and those people are not welcome in rugby league, nor any society that I know.”

Wakefield said their investigation would “consider all elements of this incident, including supporters, stewards, policies and procedures.”

Earlier this year, the Wildcats were fined £1,000 after fans threw smoke bombs onto the pitch during their match at Castleford.

The incident disrupted play during the game at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle stadium on Sunday, February 8.

In July 13, a Super League match between Wakefield and Widnes at Belle Vue was marred by fighting between rival fans on the terraces.
