DAVE Petersen has joined Sheffield Eagles on a permanent deal without making a single first-team appearance for the Bulls.

The versatile 23-year-old signed from Intrust Super Cup outfit Mackay Cutters at the end of last season along with Karl Davies and Chris Ulugia.

But Petersen and Davies sustained injuries during pre-season and have not played for Jimmy Lowes’ men this term.

Ulugia’s future at the club also appears in doubt after he was recently sent to Batley on loan for the rest of the season.

Petersen came through the ranks at hometown club Hull KR and, following his recent successful loan spell at Sheffield, he will join them permanently until the end of this season.

Eagles director of rugby Mark Aston said: “I’m thrilled to get this deal over the line to get Dave here.

“Everyone knows what we think of Dave, and it was always my intention to try and get him back for an extended stay.

“He is a great lad, always willing to work hard on the training ground to try and improve, and those are the types of individuals that we want here.”

“He gives us some aggression and, of course, he gives us versatility too, and he is just the kind of player we need around the place, ahead of what will be a crucial period of the season.”

Petersen has played four times for the Eagles this season, scoring one try.
