JIMMY Lowes singled out Danny Addy for special praise as the Bulls played out a thrilling 36-36 draw with rivals Leigh in front of 9,181 fans.

The Championship’s biggest crowd of the season saw wingers Omari Caro and Jonny Pownall score hat-tricks as the honours ended even.

Addy scored a superb second-half try and enjoyed an outstanding game in the halves with Lee Gaskell, Harry Siejka and Jake Mullaney all absent.

Head coach Lowes said: “Danny Addy was fantastic again today with some of the stuff he produced.

“Yes, he threw that intercept pass (from which Leigh scored) but dealing with errors is part and parcel of playing rugby.

“There were certainly more good than poor things from Danny and he’s probably not got the recognition he’s deserved for playing in the halves all year.”

Lowes, who admitted there was mixed emotions in the Bulls’ dressing room afterwards, said he was delighted with the bumper crowd.

“It’s two clubs who should be in Super League,” he said.

“Leigh came in numbers and filled the terrace, so credit to both set of supporters.”

Lowes revealed that Adrian Purtell, who started at stand-off, was withdrawn in the first half due to injury.

“He was struggling prior to the game and it was a bit of a risk playing him," said Lowes.

“It didn’t pay off but James Mendeika has stepped in and it was a very decent effort from him.

“It was a good game to watch, very entertaining, and Leigh are a good rugby side.

“If you give Leigh too much field position, they will challenge you. But I have to say our effort was fantastic.

“We scored 36 points but we just made some crucial errors at times.

“We had just scored a try and then Adam Henry dropped the ball from the restart, so we keep shooting ourselves in the foot.

“We’re learning, but it’s slow process and we can’t afford that in the Middle Eights when we’re up against Super League clubs.”

The Bulls are expected to announce the signing of Castleford winger James Clare, who has been playing for York City Knights on dual registration.

Clare scored four tries in a win over Gloucestershire last week to make it nine in seven appearances for York.

Knights head coach James Ford said: “He's going to Bradford as part of their drive for Super League.

“It’s not a surprise a club like Bradford want him as he's a player of Super League calibre and, more importantly, he's a great guy.”
