AFTER performances branded "rubbish" and "terrible" by Jimmy Lowes in the past fortnight, the Bulls are seeking redemption tomorrow.

The visit of struggling Batley offers Lowes' men the opportunity to put things right on home soil and start looking like a team capable of challenging for promotion.

Matty Blythe has featured off the bench in the stuttering victories over Dewsbury and Workington for his first appearances for the club since last season.

The fit-again centre or back-rower admitted: "As a team, we could have done better in the last two weeks. We know we're a good team, there's no doubt about that, and we just need to perform for the full 80 minutes.

"It's a good opportunity for us this weekend to do that. Batley are a strong side and have had a few results which haven't gone their way. But no disrespect to them whatsoever, because they're going to come out firing like any other club.

"We just need to do our job and the result will hopefully take care of itself. We practice really well throughout the week; it's just about getting it right on match days.

"We actually train the house down and even last Sunday at Workington, we were 12-0 up after 15 minutes but then took our foot off the gas. We can't be doing things like that.

"We need to be performing for 80 minutes and I think that's what Jimmy is looking for; being consistent throughout. Sunday is a chance to rectify things from the past two games."

It is also another opportunity for Blythe to continue his road to recovery after an horrendous battle with injury which left him hospitalised and unable to walk.

He regained his match fitness playing for Oxford on dual-registration and, in the past two games for Bradford, has shown glimpses of his undeniable class.

Blythe said: "I feel as if I'm getting better every week and I'm enjoying myself. Last week I got more minutes and I was happy with the way that I played.

"Obviously there are things I need to work on, like everyone else in the team. But it has been another good week for me in training and hopefully I can get more game-time and make a bigger impact as well."

Blythe is a player who Lowes knows well from their time together at Warrington and the 26-year-old's next step is re-establishing himself in the Bulls' starting line-up.

He said: "It's nice to be a part of a team again that I have really enjoyed playing for in the last couple of years. Hopefully I can push on and challenge for a starting place now.

"I'm looking forward to getting some good game-time in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully I can stay injury-free, touch wood, and play my part in the Super Eights.

"I've just tried to take my opportunities with both hands and I'd never take anything for granted, whether I had played 100 Super League games or 500.

"You look forward to playing every week and I love training with the lads and playing at the weekend. It's nice to have that feeling back again and hopefully I can keep pushing on and getting better.

"We've got a few people coming back and in contention such as Chev (Walker), who is a big leader on and off the field.

"Gasky (Lee Gaskell) should be back for the end of the regular season and he's a massive player for us. I've not played with Gasky yet this year and I'm looking forward to him coming back into the side."
