ADAM O’Brien admits the Bulls need to up their game as they prepare for three matches in eight days.

Batley are the visitors to Odsal on Sunday, followed swiftly by another home game against in-form Featherstone next Wednesday before a short trip to Hunslet on Sunday week.

O’Brien accepts his team must cut out the errors which characterised their display in Sunday’s 38-16 win at Workington.

There are only six games of the regular season left to play before the Bulls embark on the Super Eights, where their promotion hopes will be decided.

Head coach Jimmy Lowes branded the Bulls’ performance at Workington “terrible” as they switched off after establishing an early 16-0 lead.

O’Brien said: “We knew it was going to be a tough game at Workington. They got hammered at home by Featherstone the week before so we knew they would be up for it.

“They came out firing in the first 20 minutes and it was a tough contest.

“We got a couple of early tries but we eased off the pedal instead of kicking on and I think that’s what we struggled with.

“That’s what Jimmy keeps saying to us – once we get going, we need to move through the gears.”

O’Brien also feels his team must stop conceding penalties which give the opposition the field position to score tries.

The hooker added: “I think our defence was good in parts on Sunday and then they got the 40-20 which helped them to score but there were also silly little penalties which got them into our half.

“They got a couple of tries from it and if we had cut that out of our game then I don’t think they would have got into our half during the opening 40 minutes.

“The second half was the same again, a couple of early penalties got them into our half, and we need to start cutting this out of our game.

“We’re coming up to the Super Eights now and we need to cut out these mistakes which get the opposition into our territory and into a position from where they can score tries.”
