ADRIAN Purtell destroyed Halifax with another two-try blast and then roared: "Bring on the Broncos!"

The Bulls centre's double secured a 18-4 win at the inaugural Summer Bash on Saturday and continued his rich vein of form.

Purtell had also scored twice in his team's previous outing at Whitehaven and this latest display strengthened his claims for a new contract.

The Australian has now fixed his sights on maintaining the Bulls' winning streak after the success at Blackpool gave them a 12th straight Championship win.

London battered Sheffield 46-6 at Bloomfield Road on Saturday, with former Bulls star Elliot Kear scoring twice and providing assists for two other scores.

Purtell said: "London played a good game against Sheffield and have brought in some quality players, so we are going to have to be at our best.

"It is always a tough trip to go down there – but the tougher the game, the better it will stand us in good stead for later in the year.

"We are going okay and have a goal where we want to be at the end of the year and we are slowly building towards that.

"There are still things we need to fix up because we had too many unforced errors in the second half against Halifax. But our defensive effort was outstanding and we are heading in the right direction.

"There is a bigger prize at stake than finishing top two in the league this year. We are building towards something past this regular season and that's what keeps us focussed and motivated.

"For me, it's always good to get over the line but it was the result of some good team work. I only had to run ten metres and put them over – but I will take any tries."

It was a tough encounter for the Bulls against a determined Halifax outfit but Ryan Shaw opened the scoring and then set up Purtell for a second try before the break.

Shaw was forced off after a head collision with Tyler Dickinson and Halifax hit back through Ben Heaton before Purtell's second score sealed a hard-earned success in front of over 2,000 Bradford supporters.

Purtell said: "It was a tough game and both teams played well. It doesn't matter how we got them but we got the two points.

"We always take good travelling support but we can't thank the fans enough. Saturday was the next level, to come to a game an hour and a half away from home.

"They really created an atmosphere out there for us. And when it gets tough, you do notice them and it pulls you through."

Bulls head coach Jimmy Lowes revealed Shaw could have come back on if required and that his head injury was not serious.

James Mendeika came on to replace Shaw on his debut and Lowes said: "Ryan is a lot uglier than he was before the start of the game.

"He got a decent whack from a head collision – but they were offside from the kick. He could have come back on if we had really needed him.

"His skull is about six inches thick and it was a cut more than anything. It didn't rattle his brain, let's put it that way."
