MARC Green is confident of buying back Odsal before the end of the season as he vowed to deliver a facility on the historic site “in line with the 21st century”.

The Bulls chairman has made no secret of his desire to bring ownership of the ground back into the club’s hands after the RFL bought it in January 2012.

Exactly a year to the day since he was unveiled as the Bulls’ new owner, Green has reiterated his ambitious plans for the ground that has been the club’s home since 1934.

In a frank admission, he accepted the stadium was now a “dinosaur” and said he was ultimately seeking to build a modern facility that would make supporters proud.

The RFL paid the Bulls £1.25million for the ground and it is understood the governing body will sell it back to Green for a similar price once he has proved to them that the club is financially stable.

Green, who is also negotiating to secure the freehold on the site from Bradford Council, said: “We’re still in discussions with the RFL and they have taken a very pragmatic approach.

“They want comfort in the business having stability before they are willing to allow the title to transfer over.

“I understand that because the last thing they want is to be selling the lease back to the club only to find the club is in trouble and they have got to rescue it again and be left embarrassed.

“When I say we are in negotiations, the negotiations aren’t merely over how much we’re willing to pay, how much they want for it and then we meet somewhere in the middle.

“It’s about demonstrating that we have a stable and viable business that is rock-solid enough for them to feel comfortable that this is the right decision.

“I’m confident that we will have it done before the end of the season.”

Green spoke earlier this year of his plans for development of Odsal and insisted there was no intention to move the club away from the site.

But he will not press ahead with his plans until the lease is back in the club’s hands.

The Bulls currently pay £6,000 a month in rent to the RFL and Green added: “I’ve got plans for the site but I’m not going to put any of those plans into action if we don’t own it.

“Why should I do it for somebody else?”

Green is remaining tight-lipped on his proposals for the site but said that any development would make the stadium visible from far and wide.

A potential Odsal sporting village has been mooted in the past but never come to fruition.

Green said: “The plans include, amongst other things, the eventual delivery of a facility to our supporters that is in line with the 21st century and not something that is an 80-year-old dinosaur, which is what this place is at the moment.

“It’s a cracking site, but the biggest problem with it is that it’s hidden – you can’t see it.

“You can drive up here and unless there was a sign here to say ‘Odsal’, you wouldn’t know you had passed the stadium.

“I want us to be imposing on people. I want people to drive up and be in awe of what we’ve got.”

Meanwhile, Sky are set to televise Leigh’s Challenge Cup fifth-round home tie against Salford on Saturday, April 18.

That will be the only televised fifth-round tie, with the Bulls’ visit of Hull KR to be played on Sunday, April 19 with a 3pm kick-off.
