JIMMY Lowes watched the Bulls snatch a 26-19 victory at Batley and insisted: "We showed great composure to get the win."

John Kear's hosts put in a tremendous performance and appeared set for a famous win when former Bulls half-back Cain Southernwood dropped a late goal to make it 19-14.

But Danny Williams grounded a kick into the left corner with four minutes remaining and Chris Ulugia then touched down in the dying moments to seal the comeback.

Head coach Lowes said: "You play the game for 80 minutes and it doesn't matter whether you score your tries in the last five minutes or not.

"I don't think it was about fitness, I just thought we played really smart in the last ten minutes, whereas at Leigh when we went behind we panicked and tried to score off every play.

"Here I thought we showed great composure at the end and just kept putting ourselves in decent field position.

"We created opportunities from the first minute and bombed four or five of them in the first half.

"It was the same in the second half and – but for a sticky period where we conceded two terribly soft tries, which I was really disappointed with – I thought we were always just a pass away from getting a score and we did that at the end."

Lowes paid tribute to the Bulldogs and Kear, adding: "Batley has always been a tough place to play, not just because of the slope – which you forget how big it is – but because John Kear is a fantastic bloke as well as a good coach.

"He had his boys pumped up and you could see that. But I just thought we played really composed at the end there to get the win.

"Like I said, it's an 80-minute game and it doesn't matter if you get it in the first or the last minute."

Ryan Shaw, moved to centre to accommodate the return of Harry Siejka, scored a try and kicked five goals as well as creating a score for Jake Mullaney.

Lowes said: "Ryan's doing well at the moment and is riding on a bit of a crest of a wave. His kicking is great and I just don't think he feels pressure – I don't think he's smart enough to feel pressure!

"But his kicking was outstanding and I'm sure that Bradford support helped suck those points in. We had fantastic support again and they stuck with us right to the end."

Batley boss Kear reflected: "I think my players have done themselves, the group and the club proud.

"As one of them said, while the Bradford players do their swimming and ice-baths on Monday morning, our boys go to work and do their recovery there."
