LEIGH coach Paul Rowley admits he has plenty of selection headaches ahead of Sunday’s Championship opener against the Bulls.

Tom Armstrong, Adam Higson and Sam Barlow are all fit again after suffering knocks in the recent 86-0 friendly demolition of Cougars.

“It's been hard to name a 19-man squad with a view to cutting it to 17,” admitted Rowley.

“But the players who miss out are fully behind the team and what we are trying to do. This is the first rung on a very tall ladder.”

The Centurions are pulling out all the stops to attract their biggest crowd for a decade and banner adverts promoting the game are all over the town.

Meanwhile, images of Leigh players past and present have been projected onto Leigh Library in the run-up to the game as part of Wigan Council’s Believe in Leigh campaign.

Leigh chairman Michael Norris said: “After many years of off-field matters being more important than on-field performance, we approach this season with every match mattering as positions in the league table are paramount.

“It has been termed a new era for rugby league and as a club we wholeheartedly support the RFL’s initiative.

“It is apt that the two teams from outside Super League who have garnered most closed season coverage should meet in the opening fixture as Bradford Bulls are in town to face the Centurions.

“Bradford are probably the biggest name ever to appear in the Championship in the summer era and are rebuilding after suffering financial challenges over recent years.

“The new structure means that every single match has a degree of jeopardy in it.

“At the Centurions we have long campaigned for the re-introduction of promotion and the exciting and innovative way that the RFL have restructured has given us the opportunity we have long sought.”
