MATT Diskin has bolstered his under-19s squad after securing the services of highly-rated teenagers Canaan Smithies and Luke Hooley.

Smithies, 18, has spent the past two years with Huddersfield Giants, having initially joined them from Halifax-based amateur club Siddal.

Hooley, 16 – a Yorkshire under-17s representative – arrives from local amateur outfit Dewsbury Moor.

Smithies, a hooker who can play in the back row, and half-back Hooley have agreed one-year deals at Odsal.

Academy boss Diskin took over the under-19s reins in October and his side are set to remain in the top-flight competition and thus compete against Super League opposition in 2015.

"This is going to be a really big year for both Luke and Canaan and we are really pleased to have them on board ahead of the coming season," said the former Bulls skipper.

"Both are very enthusiastic and skilful young players who have the potential to make it to first grade.

"Their respective community clubs have done a sterling job with them and I would also like to take this opportunity to thanks Luke's and Canaan's parents, who have guided the boys this far.

"We believe they both have big futures in the game and we are excited about what the future could hold for them."

The Bulls' academy is supported by the Big One Lottery – which, since its inception, has raised over £800,000 to support the club's stars of the future.
