ELLIOT Kear today completed a cross-code move to Aviva Premiership outfit London Welsh following his departure from the Bulls.

The Cardiff-born winger spent the past three years at Odsal but was not offered a new deal at the end of the 2014 campaign.

That left him exploring other opportunities elsewhere and, following a successful trial spell with London Welsh, the Premiership strugglers handed him a deal.

Kear said: "I've always wanted to play Rugby Union and to have signed for London Welsh and to play at the highest level is definitely something I've wanted to do for a long time. Hopefully now I can take my chance and be the best I can be.

"Everyone is extremely focused at London Welsh and everyone has the view that we can still stay up – it only takes a few results. That's what we're searching for now, a result, and hopefully we can get that on the weekend.

"I always followed Rugby Union up until I was 18 in Cardiff and it's always been a view of mine to come back and really give it a go, and pick up from where I left off with school rugby.”

Kear, 25, scored 17 tries in 55 Super League appearances in three seasons with the Bulls following his arrival from Crusaders.

He appeared for London Welsh's pre-season friendly at Henley Hawks while on trial – Kear claiming one of Welsh's ten tries in a 64-0 win at Dry Leas.

Capped 15 times by Wales, Kear scored ten tries and played in the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.

Having previously represented Wales at Under 18 and A level, Kear won his first full international cap when he started at full back against England in 2009.

He was a member of Wales' 2010 European Cup-winning team which earned Wales a place in the 2011 Four Nations, for the first time.

A product of the Cardiff Demons Academy system he had an outstanding first two years at the Crusaders in the reserves side and he was finally rewarded with a first-team debut against Leeds Rhinos in August 2009.

London Welsh head coach Justin Burnell said: "Elliot had some excellent performances for Bradford in the Super League last year and won numerous Man of the Match awards, most notably against Wigan.

"He's got a lot of pace and with our mounting injury list he's a fantastic addition to our squad. He also comes from some good stock, coming out of that famous year group at Whitchurch High School in Cardiff along with Sam Warburton and Gareth Bale.”
