JIMMY Lowes says it was an “easy” decision to pick his new captain – but is remaining tight-lipped about his identity.

The Bulls head coach will formally unveil his skipper later this month and admits he did not take long to make his mind up.

A number of names have been linked with the role after Matt Diskin retired at the end of last season and vice-skipper Luke Gale moved to Castleford.

Lowes is keeping the name of his new on-field leader a closely-guarded secret but said: “I know who it is and it wasn’t a tough decision to make.

“There were one or two candidates but it didn’t take a lot of thinking about at all – I actually made the decision pretty quickly.

“I’ve just looked at somebody who I think will be a good leader for us.”

The Bulls coach, meanwhile, is enjoying putting his players through their places with the assistance of right-hand man Karl Harrison.

New strength and conditioning coach Gary Dempsey has also started work after serving the England team during their recent Four Nations tour.

Lowes added: “Karl is a good man and in coaching you need good people around you – that has to be your number-one priority more than anything.

“Having people you can trust is massive and I know I can trust Karl but he’s a very good coach too.

“Gary is a good conditioning coach, very experienced, and I spoke to the Wigan conditioner, Mark Bitcon, about him.

“Mark recommended him to me massively and that says everything.”
