HARRY Siejka believes he can form a potent partnership with Lee Gaskell as the Bulls plot an immediate return to Super League in 2015.

The close-season signing watched Gaskell in action last term and is confident he can dove-tail effectively with the former St Helens man.

While Gaskell is noted for his pace and strong running game, the more diminutive Siejka is aiming to supply his new team-mate with the bullets to fire.

“We should complement each other well – Lee is tall and rangy and I’m a short nugget!” said the former Wakefield scrum half.

“I think we’re both a different style of player but that works in a team.

“If you have two players who are dominant runners, it can conflict with each other but I like to direct the team and call the shots.

“If that helps Lee’s running game, then it should work well.

“I watched Lee last year and he’s a freak, so I’m really looking forward to linking up with him and playing some good footie together.”

Siejka was signed by Jimmy Lowes to replace Luke Gale after a move for Warrington’s Gareth O’Brien collapsed.

The 22-year-old Australian, who endured an injury-disrupted campaign at Wakefield and made just nine Super League appearances, is confident of making his mark at Odsal.

Siejka has an impressive pedigree, having burst onto the scene back in 2011 when making his NRL debut for the Penrith Panthers before spells with the New Zealand Warriors and St George Illawarra Dragons.

He is comfortable in both half-back positions, adding: “All my first-grade games back home I played as a six, but I definitely feel more comfortable calling the shots from seven.

“As a half-back, you’ve got to direct the team around the field and make sure all the little things are right with the forwards going forward.

“I like that responsibility on my shoulders and if I can help put Lee through a couple of holes or get the team rolling then that’s fine by me.

“That’s the direction that Jimmy wants me to provide to the team, and I’d like to think I’ve got a strong kicking game too, so I’m really looking forward to next year.”

Siejka underwent a knee reconstruction last year after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament but is confident his injury problems are firmly behind him.

Reflecting on his time at Wakefield, which saw him shunted out on loan to Featherstone, Siejka said: “I wouldn’t say there was any game where I played well because I struggled a bit after my injury.

“I played earlier than I should have done because I was meant to have nine months out with the knee injury – but I ended up playing after seven and a half.

“That knocked me around a bit and I couldn’t find my rhythm at Wakefield.

“I enjoyed myself there, the club was good and so were all the boys, but I couldn’t cement a spot there. That’s what I’m looking to do at Bradford now.”

Siejka admits he is yet to fulfil his potential which saw him represent Australian Schoolboys as a youngster.

He said: “I was good coming through as a junior but I haven’t really done much since I left the Under-20s, which I’m disappointed about.

“The two years since coming out of the Under-20s, I’ve had serious injuries in both years but, with the medical staff at Bradford, I’m hoping to have a good year this year.

“I’m feeling more confident and like I’ve grown into my body to ensure I have a good year and hopefully help Bradford back into Super League and prove my worth.”
