DAN Fleming has set his sights on winning the European Championship with Wales – and reaching the 2017 World Cup.

The new Bulls prop joined new Wales boss John Kear at a press conference to launch the tournament at the Holiday Inn in Brighouse yesterday.

The winners of the Championship will claim a place in the 2016 Four Nations, but the tournament will also form part of the qualification process for the 2017 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Should either Ireland or Wales win, they will qualify directly, joining fellow European nations England, France and Scotland who have already been seeded.

Fleming said: “We’ve just discovered that the winner goes through to the 2017 World Cup, so the stakes could not be any higher.

“People might think ‘it doesn’t involve England or Australia, so it doesn’t really matter’.

“But it’s a massive for Wales, Scotland, Ireland and France. The route to the World Cup starts here for us.

“It would be unreal to play in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand – I would be packing my suncream for that!”

Fleming joined the Wales camp in Wrexham yesterday afternoon ahead of their opening fixture on Friday in Workington against Scotland, who could include Bulls star Danny Addy.

After a back injury disrupted his campaign at Castleford, Fleming is now fully fit and raring to go.

The 22-year-old said: “I think my last game was for York against Oxford in April, so it’s been a long time.

“But I’ve been in training for maybe eight or nine weeks and my back is 100 per cent.

“I’m raring to go now and I can’t wait to get out there on Friday if selected.”

Fleming met his new Bradford team-mates last week when Jimmy Lowes’ men began pre-season training.

He said: “We did an 18-mile walk and it was quite an experience. We walked from Tong to Fagley, where we did some community work, tidying up and clearing wasteland, then went to Odsal for something to eat.

“Then we did the last leg from Tong to Odsal and it was great for team bonding because there were no phones allowed and you had to talk to people. It allowed us to get to know everyone and have a good laugh along the way.

“There were a few lads aching at the end of it but we all did it.”

Fleming will resume pre-season training with the Bulls at the end of the European Championship.

He added: “Jimmy said I can just stay with Wales now until the tournament is over.

“The last Wales game is on November 2 and Jimmy said I can have a few days off after that and then get straight back into training at Bradford.”
