Four Bradford Bulls superfans who held a series of crisis meetings when the club faced liquidation have been chosen to become voluntary ambassadors when the Super League season kicks off tomorrow.

Claire Butterfield, Tony Tudor, Barry Fawthrop and Carol Coulshed, members of new supporters’ group Bradford Bulls Future Horizons, have been asked by owner Omar Khan and honorary chairman Gerry Sutcliffe to fulfil new leadership roles at the top-flight side’s Provident Stadium – welcoming fans and co-ordinating teams of volunteers in a bid to build a “community club”.

Life-long fan Miss Butterfield, who will be looking after the concourse on match days, became involved with the club when it entered administration and was part of a team which organised heated meetings last July to discuss what could be done to save the Bulls.

“We and a couple of others were involved when the club was in trouble and Omar and Gerry have recognised that,” she said.

“Since then we’ve continued to help them, making sure they see the fans’ side of things and helping with events, as well as creating our own.

“It’s a great feeling to know you’re helping the club, especially when you think about the fact that nine months ago we almost didn’t have one.”

Each member of the team will be responsible for a different area of the ground, with Mr Tudor in change of the Coral Stand, Mr Fawthrop looking after ground maintenance and Mrs Coulshed looking at setting up a children’s play area.

Volunteers will be enlisted to help with tasks around the stadium to save the club some money and awards nights will be held at the middle and end of the season to recognise their efforts.

Miss Butterfield, who was among a group of fans that painted terraces at Odsal, added: “We are thanking Omar for the fact he has invested in the club.

“I will be at the games a few hours before, where I will be showing away fans around. We want to make the club more welcoming and a happier place. Each job, no matter how small, makes a difference and you get a great buzz from knowing you’ve helped your club.”

Mr Khan said the decision to recruit the volunteers was one of the ways he hoped to bring “Bullmania” back to Odsal.

“It’s the most beautiful feeling to get everyone together and become part of the club. There’s a great feel-good factor and it makes me feel like I’m doing something right.

“They will be available to tell people what to do and when to go and help anyone who needs help.

“These are people who are passionate about the club and it’s great to have them on board.”
