Excuse me but I always thought Super League’s Grand Final was in October and not March.
Don’t they play a full 27-game fixture-list first and then the play-offs?
You can understand my confusion given some of the knee-jerk
comments from Bulls fans already.
Apparently, if I heard it right, this year has been written off. Super League XIII is kaput at Odsal according to the know-it-alls.
Their logic being simple. The Bulls have lost four out of eight and are therefore completely out of the race.
There is no point in denying it. Might as well just play out time.
Of course, by the same thought process, St Helens can forget any hopes of autumn glory as well. And Wigan too.
They’d both suffered three defeats after round eight and are clearly over the hill.
As for Hull? Might as well save the KC’s pitch for the football team’s unlikely promotion push.
It’s a two-horse race this year. Leeds, the runaway train at the top, against Warrington. The remainder are just there to make up the
numbers.
Leeds, so I’m told, are on another world and simply unstoppable. Warrington, having lost only twice, are their only serious opposition.
You could be forgiven for forgetting that the Bulls have actually won three of their last four.
Amid all the doom and gloom
forecasts, that is easily overlooked because of the Leeds thrashing.
Yes, they were completely swamped at Headingley. But who hasn’t been?
Well, apart from Cas of course, and look what good that’s done them.
Anyone who saw Leeds steamroller Hull the other day will know about the Rhinos’ awesome form of late.
But the final is still half a year away and that’s a long time to keep playing like that.
Steve McNamara will not be happy to be sat in mid-table with a 50-50 record. But it is hardly time to start manning the lifeboats.
He would have expected better at Wakefield on the opening day but the other losses – against Saints at home, away to Wigan and then the Leeds thumping – were always going to be tough ’uns. Surely the time to judge what impact they will have had, if any, on the Bulls’
season should be in the autumn, not the spring.
St Helens have tripped up against the likes of Huddersfield and Catalans. But you don’t hear the panic button going off there just yet.
The Bulls are clearly hurting because of the absence of so many big players through injury. Take half a dozen key men out of any team and see how they would get on.
Hull, who have nine major casualties, are suffering even more. With six losses from their eight games, they are playing catch-up big time.
But is it such a crisis at Odsal? Nothing is ever decided at this stage of the campaign. Not that it will stop the doom merchants from proclaiming this as the beginning of the end.
It’s just typical of the mentality of message boards and phone-ins when fans demand success straight away and all the time. So any defeat is viewed as disaster.
These are probably the same people who dismissed the Bulls in 2005 when they got off to a shocker.
That year they lost five of the first nine, including a 40-point bashing from Leeds at home. But remind me, how did the season eventually pan out?
Maybe it will end up a season of frustration for the Bulls. But to write the obit in March is pure madness.
At last a voice of reason! When I see the calls for Macca's head and the general negative comments from so called fans on the message boards it makes me ashamed. I live and work in Leeds and the Rhinos can not believe what my so called fellow fans are writing. Yes the Leeds defeat hurt, badly, but lets face it, we are in a rebuilding phase whilst Leeds have now reached their peak with the same consistent team that they have had for several years. So do us a favour Bulls fans, get behind the coach and team, they won't let you down come the business end of the season, but if they do,complain then!

The fact that you feel you have to defend maccy tells us that yes there is a crisis, were meant to be at leeds level so to get hammered by them shows it!!!!!

Here here well said Simon! Quite frankly these idiots blathering on doom and gloom need to be told to shuttup wittering because they bring us all down! We are barely a quarter of the way through the season and haven't even started to out our full tema out yet. As for those delighting in the opportunity to knife Macnamara, it's despicable they are not true supporters. What thes emessage boards do is allow a lot of thickos to vent their spleen and feel important ( me among em! ) but when it's just bile and garbage they are not worth listening to. Come the end of the season we will be up there! Come on the BULLS!!

we cant beat the teams we should be up there with so how can we get up there? we need to get a coach in with a bit of flair that can get the players motivated again!!!!!!!

Funny how someone who probably doesn't even pay to go through the gates has started talking about a crisis, who, anywhere has mentioned the word on any of the dicussions recently?

The fans want to see the BULLS perform well all season not just in october, after all it's our money that pays there wages. Get me in for free MR Parker and then i might not expect much from them and accept the position we are in now but as i have to pay i want more and expect more.

Yeah, in 2005 we won SL after losing 5 of the first 9. But we also finished 3rd and for the best part of the year we weren't the best side in the league! Plus we were playing off the back of a team that had already won a final. Fielden, Peacock, Pryce, Deacon, Hape, Les...all won the final in 2003! Now we have Vagana (injured), Deacon, Hape (out of form) and Iestyn Harris...possibly the worst signing the Bulls could ever have made in 2004 because we're still paying for it now!
It's easy to say stay optimistic and we can win a title and everything is rosy, but why should we settle for playing well in patches when Leeds, Saints, Wigan and Wire can string something together now? We're meant to be one of the big 4 and yet we lost to all three others?

Oh and yes, we are losing "key players" but who isn't? We have the players in the squad to do the job. Leeds lost McGuire, Toopi, Gibson for weeks. Leuluai against us and now Lee Smith. Yet they have still only lost once.

Just face it. Macca has turned us into a mid table side with mid table signings.
Recruiting largley from Hudds, Wakey and Quins, what else do you expect. 5 - 6 looms.
Next seasons recruitment will be as shambolic as the last 2, the man simply doesn't know what he's doing.

It would be unfair to blame the new signings. Sykes has been superb, Finnigan has really been good, Evans came from Wakey & Hudds and he has been a saviour the past few weeks.
No the problem seems to be the likes of Hape, who doesn't seem at all interested this year, Harris who should have retired last year, Platt with his ridiculous offloading in his own red zone and Tupou who (until recently) looked very lazy.

To much quantity...not enough quality. Ive said it all along, you know it.

The recruitment has favoured quantity over quality but I wonder how much hands were tied due to cap constraints and the diabolical recruitment of Harris by Noble and Caisley.
Whilst the team hasn't had the best of starts let's see how things pan out before the knee jerk reactions.

Sykes, Finnigan & Jeffries are already slotting in well and Godwin isn't far off (in fact I think he plays better from the start instead of being subbed on). Jury is still out on Tadulala and Nero as they seem to be struggling to fit in. I just think that some players are taking for granted their salary and feel they don't really need to show any kind of pride in the jersey. We need to get some fire back in the Bulls, and that's not just the players but the coaches and fans as well!
Odsal is more like a morgue these days. I know it's hard to build an atmosphere when we're playing so indifferently but every other club have their 14th man...where's Bradford's?

Giddy me the point Simon is making is that now is NOT the time for judgement and knee jerk reactions to a few games is not the most sensible approach and what does everybody do? Grab the chance to jump on the same old boring bandwagon again.

Finnigan has got some good tries, but he's hit and miss and Jeffries is just like the other two halfbacks, he cant open a solid defence up. (Ive told you all along, the halfbacks at Bradford Bulls are balls and the sooner we get rid of all the lot of them the better.)
To be fair to Tadulala, ive seen some good stuff, he runs the ball hard and is really agressive which I like but that is not enough. Godwin is pretty standard and his service is poor, and Nero, well he's just overrated.
As for Odsal, well thats another thing I said, its a sh!thole, its a scruffy cold dump with poor facilities. Nobody wants to go and stand in the elememnts without cover.
Bulls need a whole new stadium, not some cost saving upgrade to a dirty worn down building site.
This club is going backwards.

And what is it with the exclamation marks mate, it's the grammatical equivalent of a heart attack, take it easy. And Simon Parker is talking sense by the way, it's a long haul and the side that blasts off in spring is frequently not the one that is there in the autumn, as we have shown. now calm down

Why do people (I would call them fans but they don't deserve the title) always focus on the negatives. Don't get me wrong I'm all for review the season and making changes if needed but at the end of the season. Give the squad a chance to play the full season and see where they finish. The off season is the time to strategise and change. Our job as fans is to be 100 % behind OUR team every step of the way. Win, loose or Draw I am a Bulls fan and a loss or two won't stop me going to the next game to cheer my team on. Come on guys stop sending out negative vibes and lets concentrate on being the 14th man by supporting our boys in attendance, positive support and attitude. a wise man once said the carrot always works better than the stick!!! So don't punish them for a loss, support them and let them know us true fans will always believe in the team.

Think LJ you need a reality check. Of course Odsal isn't fit for purpose. The club know it only too well, I know it and you know it. They've strived for years to get it sorted but have never had the money to do it themselves, as such we've been let down.
Simply moving to VP isn't an option as it'd cost the club millions of pounds to move to get out of the agreement to be at Odsal.
As for the team, it has gone downhill since 2005. The quality has gone through the floor, is that all down to McNamara or is he being restricted by finances/cap? Surely you're not suggesting he turned down the option to sign better players in order to sign also rans?
Think it'll be a few years before we see the side come good. Simply buying a side doesn't work, ask Warrington. We need to get some young players through the system.
We haven't produced any top class players (Burgess apart) since Fielden, Peacock and Pryce (all pre Noble recruits). Remember it was Noble too who sanctioned the departures of Parker, Reardon, Bridge and Atkins.

Since the glory day's we all like to quote, the Bulls have replaced Noble with Macca, Veivers with St. Hillaire,Fielden with Feather, Pryce with Jefferies,Vainikolo with Tupou, Withers with Platt. They have also lost Balu, Guilmore, Foreshaw, Gartner etc., Okay I know all you do gooders will start name-calling as Parker does in his blog (water off a ducks back by the way) But it's time to wake up and smell the coffee as they say. Coaching, Playing Staff and of course Caisley was replaced by Hood and financially the club is worse off too. Now come on you guys of wisdom.we all want the club to do well ..but where are the positives?

If you're not happy with the situation{Haitch} please tell us how you would remedy all of the present problems,I've asked you this question before, coach, chairman, board, all to go?
You didn't answer last time and you can't now.
STOP MOANING AND PAY THROUGH THE TURNSTYLES LIKE THE REAL PEOPLE WHO CARE!
Some people on here are habitual moaners who seem to want instant success,it doesn't happen that way anymore, the days when 3 or 4 team ruled the roost have gone, look at some of the results so far this season,as some teams get stronger naturally others become weaker, this is Super League 2009.
Get used to it.

As for peaking again, sure we will. But not with Macca in charge. No way.
As for paying at the turnstyles and stuff, I do, Im a season ticket holder, so I have as much right to speak the same as any other person does.

Yes it is so hard for people like wipsi to allow others an opinion I don't know why. OK wipsi I have answered you before and I'll do it again but please do read what I say and at least try to realise there are different views on here. Like Simon Parker you seem to find that hard to grasp.
I do not have a way to solve Bulls problems.
Unlike you I see there IS a problem and I recognise an inferior playing staff, coaching staff and board. Also an apparent inferior cash flow situation Than that of just a few short years ago.Whatever the reason for this I see it as FACT.
Now the above does not stop me wanting the best for the bulls and being excited at the prospect of a win or bit of good fortune.
The way people like me (and LJ) are is that we see it as it is. Difficult.
We do not say all will get better because there is nothing in the present set up to suggest it will or wont.
The delusion you have is that your 'optomistic' views make you a better
supporter because you do not wish to criticise as we do. Then you resort to using words like 'crap and garbag' (or even worse) in an attempt to degrade us. If you think the Bulls are in good shape then fair enough, I hope you are right. It just doesn't look that way to me and I strongly defend my right to say so.

great game, all played well. i consider myself a true supporter, travelling from Hull to see as many games as i can, work permitting.i get behind my team, give them encouragement and don't get negative in the face of a few defeats. a few more that write negative thoughts on here ought to start doing the same instead of moaning and talking the team into mediocraty. get behind a coach who has inheritted some s***e from the previous coach and is doing his best.
COME ON YOU BULLS!!!
