Mark Ellis is the latest City old boy to come back to Valley Parade.

The former flying winger will take on the role of under-16 coach and be given the task of developing potential players of the future.

Ellis, a team-mate of Stuart McCall's during his decade as a City player, returns to his old stamping ground with an extensive coaching CV at youth level which has taken him all over the world.

The 46-year-old coached in South Africa with Cape Town Ajax, a feeder club for the Dutch giants, and won the national under-17s cup competition with them. His young charges also acquitted themselves well in an American tournament featuring Real Madrid, Ajax and Inter Milan.

More recently, Ellis has been coaching Michigan Bucks in America. He has also been connected long-term with the Huddersfield academy.

City joint-chairman Mark Lawn said: "As an ex pro, he will cultivate the under-16s and give them a better chance of stepping up to youth level.

"Mark will get them for a year before we have to make a decision and his skills will help bring them on. His coaching CV is outstanding."

Ellis, who has earned the UEFA A coaching badge, will also continue to take Guiseley for training sessions during the week.

Lawn added: "It's a bit of a coup for us because Mark is in demand. A lot of fans might remember him as a bit of a wild card but he has grown up since his playing days.

"I've known him since I was on his testimonial committee and we have become firm friends. He is also a personal fitness trainer and has helped me lost four-and-a-half stone!

"But his appointment is part of the ethos about bringing in people who really care about this club. It's an important age group and we believe he is the right man to bring these lads on."

a good move indeed, and perhaps he will start to use his close friendship with Brian Mitchell, City's former right back now employed in Aberdeen and with very strong connections with youth football in that area.

It appears that the structure will be for Mark mto get the kids up to a strong standard by 16 and for Wetherall then to take them forward so that more push forward permananetly into the first team.

Excellent news--a structure is emerging to get younger players through in a meaningful way: youth is the future.

Why all the former employees at the club - obviously it is thought a good idea to get the supporters on board. Would it not be a better idea to get people who are the best at the job. Oxford Bantam obviously sees the position from outside the box but I think a look inside the box is needed. Get them tickets they are going quick, don't wait for a 'phone call.

so SENSELESS-- no response to how you would actually manage any professional football club, how you would match up income with expenditure without wealthy benefactors bank rolling it.

For reasons I am unwilling to divulge, I find this an incredible, unbelievable appointment. McCall's got his old mate back.

I thought things were going in the right direction, alas it's nothing but a joke.

What an absolute joke appointment.

We're turning into a laughing stock. As someone else posted, get Bobby Campbell in running the bars.

Didn't he previously have a similar job at City and lost it in mysterious circumstances.

Lawn, McCall - I thought things were improving but obviously not.

Who next? I dread to think.

Abosoloutley a great appointment credit to all concerned.

Not really sure how anyone can criticise till they see it work or not work?

Then again you always get someone negative (not including not so sensible because I dont even read what that tw*t has to write) about everything.

We could sign Ronaldo and someone would moan we cant afford him.

Cant wait till next season.
