Stuart McCall was stepping up City's transfer trail today by meeting two potential signings.

The Bantams chief is keeping the identity of his targets under wraps as he looks to bring in around six new faces for next season but he insists his rebuilding plans are well underway.

McCall has already held talks with Huddersfield hitman Luke Beckett, who is currently away on holiday as he ponders City's interest.

Morecambe winger Garry Thompson and Mansfield striker Michael Boulding are also understood to be on the wanted list, though City will face stiff competition for both.

McCall said: "I'm encouraged with the way things are going but I'm not going to get carried away.

"You've got to give players time to make their decisions. Players who are of a good quality don't have to rush in to anything.

"The level of player we are looking for will have other clubs chasing them but the ones we are after would give us a really good shot at being in the top three.

"We've been doing a lot of work and hopefully some of the targets we've already spoken to have been convinced that this is the club for them.

"We're aiming high but realistically high. If we miss out on a couple then we'll at least have given it a right go but if we get them it will be a real eye-opener for people. We've got our foot in the door."

Thompson, who has ignored a lucrative deal to stay at Morecambe, is believed to be interesting League Two champions MK Dons as well as Darlington, while ambitious Boulding - also wanted by former club Grimsby - would love to step up to the Championship.

Beckett said: "I've been in and out of the team for both my seasons at Huddersfield and, at my age, I need regular football.

"Signing a three-year contract looked like the right move for me at the time but if I do leave the club, I'll probably look for a one-year deal and review things after that."

McCall has made one summer signing so far - Harrogate Town goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin - but he is not worried about being rushed into doing business.

"There are people away on holiday at this time or some we are eyeing up still playing in the play-offs," said the City boss.

"I could go out now and get a dozen new players but are they better than what we've got?

"Obviously there comes a time when you have to put a time scale on it and I would love to get one or two signed within the next few weeks.

"But it's not how quick they come, it's about making sure they are the right ones."

City will also be looking for a new physio as Steve Redmond, who has done the job for the last 13 years, has been told his contract will not be renewed at the end of the month.

good luck Redders!

i assume we won't be signing boulding and beckett, either would be good but Boulding's record this season for a relegated side is very impressive.

Two injury time goals, I can not believe it - gutted. I'm off back to bed.

Well let's hope that Donny get a winner in the 4th minute of 2 minutes time added on at Wembley.

Its good to see that STU has already started to try and get his team for next season sorted early. At least this way he won't be left with the dross that he had to pick from last season, NIX excluded. I understand he has targets but why is STU insistant on former League players. I'm sure there are a few bargains around in non league which is as a good standard as the bottom tier of the Footbal League nowadays. Wouldn't cost a great deal in wages to have a gamble with these lads. There have been a number of these players who have gone on to be sold for big transfers and generate revenue for the club. Just the thing we need. But at the end of the day STU is the man in the seat and I'll still cheer them on whichever league the players have come from.

Not been busting down the door, well that's us screwed then. I feel jealous, having driven past the Darlington, Rochdale and Bournemouth grounds recently because there's a massive queue of players outside each of them banging on the door screaming "sign me sign me!"

Here we go again, nice positive report about how City are in talks with players, aiming high and feeling confident. People like you have to spin it around and find some sort of negative - when there isn’t one.

Well said JM. Shaun (of the DEAD) obviously doesn't realise that the season has just ended and players don't need to rush into any decision. Most of them are having a welcomed holiday with their families. At least STU is talking to players which is a positive move. If they don't want to come then so what he moves onto the next one. The club isn't exactly flushed with money to pay top wages so Shaun should get in the real world and remeber this before he starts moaning about door banging. Perhaps he needs to bang his own head on a door and WAKE UP!!

Another positive is that they're not rushing to sign because presumably they're being offered lowish wages - which could easily be beaten by smaller clubs in the same league. This is positive because it means we are being sensible (sorry to take his name not in vain) with our limited resources. Beckett is a prime example. He knows we're a good club who are going places under Stuart, but he'd also be stupid to sign for the first club he speaks to, without waiting to see if anyone in league one can double our offer.

well done stuart - and I see noone has picked up on my scurrilous rumour that schwarzer's coming back!

Someone mentioned Shaw(?) at Halifax?? Looks to be about 6 foot, aged 23/24, scored 20 goals in the league below and probably doesn't require a massive wage - worth a punt perhaps to play along side Thorney! Much rather see budget spent in midfield and defence and make city extremely tough to beat! Add Colbeck, Daley, Thorne (Shaw?), Conlon and build from there!

Redmund and Pepper leave!

this sounds like a major cost cutting exercise.

These cuts must have been under discussion for some time now which may then have precipitated the resignation of the director.

as I stated in earlier posts the move of Wetherall into a non playing position does seriously affect budgets in that another player has to be recruited to cover whilst his playing contract is effectively transferred to overhead costs.

I somehow doubt that we will get a youth team coach per se and that Wetherall and Richards will do that job:remember when DW decided he was retiring from playing he and the club stated he was going to be responsible for looking after younger players and get them coming through into the first team--- that sounds like a youth coach position to me.

I think also that the position of Sticks must be under serious discussion as well.

Not been busting down the door, well that's us screwed then. I feel jealous, having driven past the Darlington, Rochdale and Bournemouth grounds recently because there's a massive queue of players outside each of them banging on the door screaming "sign me sign me!" Here we go again, nice positive report about how City are in talks with players, aiming high and feeling confident. People like you have to spin it around and find some sort of negative - when there isn’t one.
Well said J.M but what did you expect to hear from L***s supporting wind up merchants.

Why is everybody walking away from the Club, money, we can always say that but seems to be happening since I came on here a month ago.I can assure you that I am not directly involved but I feel sorry for you all but how far can one go to assist. Someone is causing serious problems or everybody else is wrong.
