Beckett due for talks with Bantams

City have had an offer accepted for Luke Beckett, number 18, and the striker is due for talks with City boss Stuart McCall

Luke Beckett is set to talk over a possible move to Valley Parade tomorrow.

Boss Stuart McCall was given permission to speak to the Huddersfield hitman, after City had an undisclosed offer accepted by their West Yorkshire rivals.

Joint-chairman Julian Rhodes confirmed: "Huddersfield have given us permission to speak to Beckett and Stuart will do that tomorrow."

The 31-year-old has another year left on his contract at the Galpharm but is not in new boss Stan Ternent's plans.

He also did not feature towards the end of last season and even appeared in a reserve game against City.

Beckett has been a prolific scorer in the lower divisions and was strongly linked with a move to the Bantams in 2006 but former boss Colin Todd opted to sign the recently-released Eddie Johnson instead.

McCall has made it clear that a new striker is one of his main summer priorities.

He currently has 15-goal top scorer Peter Thorne, Barry Conlon, Willy Topp and youngster Luke Medley but feels he needs more firepower.

Good signing in my opinion. Knows where the net is and will certainly get goals in League 2. Let's hope we can sort the wages.....

If he does come then what a great signing that would be- and shows that SM really does mean business next season.

If LB does decide to come then that would be a great sign for other players to come as well.

C'mon lets fill VP for next season

Agreed,Ge would easy get over 15 from him,Plus Thorney with 20 this year,Plus Colbeck 10,Plus nix about 10,Plus daley about 8,Get topp a couple aswell then were laughing to league 1

Just a thought but if SM is willing to sign LB on quite a high wage it may indicate someone else with a high wage may be on the way out?

Thorne, Conlon, Topp, Daley and now Beckett...the goals should flow!

lets hope so jamesh, but for daley to score eight we would need to create approx 80 chances in one season for Omar alone, not saying his finishing is bad.....

I understand that Dwaine Chambers may be coming next season. Should add a bit of class to the squad.

Just looked at some of his old posts rich and he usually does talk pish however this one made me giggle, why would we need Dwain when we have Omar! Just as fast with just as little ball sense! Maybe Omar should try track and field??

My god what a signing he would be i was gutted we didnt get him 2 years ago.The goals he could in this league 20 plus easy combine that with Thorne???.Would be amazed if we can agree a wage with him though.
Not actually seen him play much in the flesh anyone know more about his game other then goals? could he combine with Thorne?.

Hope we manage to land Beckett, his goalscoring record is excellent at this level & if he can strike up a partnership with Thorne we will be formidable up front. Good move by Stuart to get in there quick before the dust has even settled on last season. My only concern attacking wise is that we don't seem to have anyone who can cross a ball. Daley,Colbeck & Nix all need to improve vastly in that department. Also despite Weatheralls valiant efforts the back four looked totally out of sorts last season. Some of the goals we were conceding were pretty poor & sometimes even comical.Still,I get the impression from the early flurry of transfer speculation that Stuart, having found his managerial feet,is going for it big style next season...bring it on!

Yes but Stuart, you could struggle to get Beckett to sign a 6 month contract like brain dead Conlan!!

these short term contracts worked for us with nix, it means big Bazza needs to work hard for first half of the season if he wants to earn a contract till the end of it. keeping him on his toes, not thinking i've already earnt a full year and take it abit easier. now please stop moaning!!!

Mmmm NOTSO SensiLLYBELL and his love interest Shaun of the 'brain' dead posting again!! Go and play together in your own limited dimension.
Frankly not so sure about Beckett, what will he add. Do we not need someone wth pace or guile.

no wages to pay for johnson, wetherall or ricketts, plus the rest that have been offloaded, so that should free up a fairly decent wage budget

Lets hope they realise that HMCR and the Pension Fund come forst ot there will be no ground or team but come to think about it there is no 'football' team now. Shaun, I wish we could have the same results when fishing, spent all day yesterday without a bite.

Gary Thompson the winger from Wycombe?

Johnson was supposedly on 3k a week! So we can afford to pay Beckett half of this and keep some back for other big signings!!!

Beckett won't come for that amount. Do you know the average wage at Valley Parade and he'll want well above that and deserve it in comparison. Don't forget your season ticket, only 5,800 left.
Posted by: tyker, midland road on 2:51pm Thu 8 May 08
Beckett in with higher than average wages for our club and Colbeck out for a larger fee than we pay for Beckett:the savings on Colbeck's wages plus the suplus cash generated from the two transactions will probably be enough to pay Beckett what he wants to move.

the fact that Huddrefield obviously do not want him and therefore likely to be playing reserve team football only may encourage hism to transfer across.
and Colbeck--my guess is that Darlington will make an offer.

If you are relying on Colbeck's wages to be able to afford to bring in Beckett, don't bother!! Colbeck is on next to nowt (£250 a week).
Unless we can get £100k for him in a transfer, would make better sense to keep him and help get promotion with us!!

Hope he is talking about the area supervisor in front of the kop as the current one should be pulled in by the police for "tripping" kids up.
