Nix signs new City deal
 |
| Kyle Nix has impressed City boss Stuart McCall with his approach |
Kyle Nix has signed for another year at Valley Parade - after proving boss Stuart McCall wrong.
Nix, who finished City's second-top scorer with eight goals, followed Barry Conlon in putting pen to paper on a new deal yesterday.
McCall has been delighted with the form of the all-action midfielder after throwing down the gauntlet when he gave the 22-year-old his second crack at the professional game.
McCall said: "I think he even surprised himself by how many games he has played. We've really seen him come on and flourish but that's a testament to his ability and his character.
"I said I couldn't see him playing left side because he lacked natural pace; and I couldn't see him in central midfield because he didn't have the height or the physical attributes.
"But he just went out there to show me how capable he was and that's what I want to see in a player.
"When you put down a challenge, you want to see people overcome them and Nixy has done that.
"But he's set his standards now. He can't come back next season thinking he has already made it - but I know that's not going to happen."
Full back Luke O'Brien has also signed his new contract, while fellow youngsters Sean Taylforth and Luke Medley are currently mulling over their offers but there is nothing to suggest they will not sign.
City's players have now officially clocked off for the summer but left Valley Parade with strict fitness programmes to follow.
Omar Daley is likely to report back a week later than the rest for pre-season because Jamaica play four internationals during the break.
McCall said: "They've got two friendlies and two World Cup qualifiers coming up, so we know he will be ticking over with those."

excellent news! Nixy's had a decent season and will be a very useful player to have in the squad next season. In terms of work rate he reminds me of Jamie Lawrence

I've loved Nix and his style since opening day v Macc, he put two thundering tackles in directly below me, one on malteser head, and from that point on his commitment has been second to none, even when out of the side he worked his socks off to get back in and stay in. That is how a short term contract can motivate a player who wants to stay and play, Conlon needs to show something similar during his next 6 month contract and it will be his turn to receive the plaudits next time round (as long as he sticks some goals in).

I hope there are few more quality players willing to join the Ginger Revolution. Taylforth & Medley ...get signing .... this is a huge opportunity to get legend status at VP ;-) City are on the up with a great platform being built.

Yes Stuart walked back into Valley Parade last summer, took one look at Kyle Nix and decided "you're too slow to play on the wing and too small to play in the centre, I don't fancy you as a player."
Oh wait, hang on…
Stuart signed Kyle Nix last summer, he was the man responsible for plucking him from obscurity to Valley Parade and giving him a second chance.
Oh yes, and he was also the manager who blooded him into the team, played him however many times this season and has helped him to develop into a decent player.
But yeah, he's been proved wrong hasn’t he Shaun?

McCall couldn't manage a cocanut stall. How is that when anyone points out the truth people get annoyed and come out with ridiculous remarks. Look at facts, would Ferguson let Ronaldo miss the last game of the season to jet off on holiday. Then look at the quality of player would Ronaldo want to go on holiday and miss a game. Thats one difference between a club and a circus. One lot of supporters are clowns for standing for it.

the signing of beckett along with thorne we should be looking at getting 35 goals of them 2 this coming season dont want to be putting too much pressure on them both have scored goals at higher level and we all saw what thorne can do if he stays fit also intresting is the fact we have paid a fee for a player again no matter how small or big it maybe not bad for a club struggling with money issue eh mr senseless
wonder if stu is still interested with boulding just imagine him signing as well god help other teams defences a luxury of strikers who can score something we havent had since being promoted to prem when we had mills blake and windass
also glad nix as signed his energy and commitment last season was 2nd to none hope he continues his form next season

IF and its a big IF we have THORNE, CONLAN,BECKETT AND BOULDING whre does TOPP fit ?
Nix is a good signing -- prefer him playing just behind the front two with two other strong midfiled players with Colbeck for pace on either flank: lets hope we can get someone to get the ball to this plethora of scoring talent consistently and from wide positions!
We all know the club is skint so calling for sackings of managers is hardly a solution when contracts will have to be paid up etc.
LIKE IT OR LUMP it we have teh managerail team in for another 12 months at least so let's not keep banging on about how good, bad or rubbish they are: The club cannot afford sackings so has to live with what its got. OK if at teh end of next season there is no progress into at least a play off place then teh matter can be reviewed then.--I AM ASSUMING BOTH SM AND WJ had two year contracts,

There are to many posts from above to post in this post - does that make sense?!
They made me laugh anyway - hand on heart, there are some right numpty's on here, the posts do make me laugh. I've supported City man & boy - Bobby Campbell being my first boy hood idle.
City should have a look at a bloke at Oxford - Central defender, Luke Foster, only 22. He'd replace Wethers a treat - no nonsence approach & can actually pick out a pass.
Beckett would be a good signing, but why are scummersfield letting him leave?

i just hope that the board have not left the maximum wage stucture too low otherwise players suggested by you all ie. thompson ,doyle, brandon et.al. will not even look at v.p. but i think 52k p.a. is not bad for playing a game. who knows but i might find my boots along with £600 plus exspenses p.a. and the bus fare along with trevor hockey and stan storton, keith dugdale and myself

Don't forget to get your tickets I understand they are going like cold Yorkshire puddings, hence one or two of you puddings will have bought yours.

Those that run it are generally corrupt, silver-tongued and invariably violent crooks. They rely on you fools to part with your hard-earned cash. Keep it in your pockets you clowns and spend it on something or someone more worthy.

how can you compare the two situations? this is stupid. it was a meaningless end of season game and he wasn't fit to play, why should he be dragged there?
He's something that will surprise you Sensible. City take a match day squad to away games of 16 players and two reserves. Everyone else not involved, be they suspended or injured, don't go. they stay at home with their feet up.
And get this - this is what all clubs do! even Man U wouldn't take Ronaldo to Wigan if he was injured.
I repeat again, please leave these boards. they are for City fans to debate City matters, not for irritating prats like you who won a season ticket in a competition, have no gratitude and hate the club. get lost to whatever hole you came from and don't ever come back.

I repeat again, please leave these boards. they are for City fans to debate City matters, not for irritating prats like you who won a season ticket in a competition, have no gratitude and hate the club. get lost to whatever hole you came from and don't ever come back.

Calm down old boy or you are going to burst a blood vessel. When do you book a holiday, when you know that there is nothing to play for, if thats they case they could have all booked the week off in January. Come on get on the right wave length. Have you heard the good news, 9,500 tickets sold, bad news Huddersfield. Assume you have got your season ticket, I will be having mine sent as a gift, snag is I have no enemies to give them too, unless you want a couple.

Sensible you spell COCONUT rather than cocanut, lots of your other dreadful spelling mistakes maybe down to typos but the misspelling of Coconut proves something about your very limited intellectual ability

I am of very limited intellectual ability and I know it. There is a bigger problem with those who are not aware. They should sit back and look at themselves and the interest they have shall we say in football and the way they can be taken in.Would not think jaffalafa says a lot and Bantam and Bull only makes me ponder. P.S. Got your tickets yet, not many left, mind you I understand the first print was for 5,000 on a sale or return. Shaun, hope you are well.

God Bless Trevor. Did a lot for Keighley soccer. After the demise of Keighley Town, along came Silsden and they are trying to get Keighley buzzing again.

thank you SPANISH OMELETTE for the reply because i played alongside a future world cup coach. one TOM TILLOTSON who went on to play in America then more importantly N.Z.where his coaching skills caught the eye of the Cooke Isle F.A.even though the beautiful place lost overall to New Zealand just goes to show that people and places will stand their corner.

Mr Sensible and Shaun are certainly pillocks though. I think McCall is going to be a good manager - he certainly seems to be learning the job OK. Nix is a little belter as well, full of effort and energy, good technique and weighs in with a few goals.

Let's stick to the posts and debate them as appropriate. We all know who the wind-up merchants are, so simply ignore their posts.
They do not add any value with their spiteful comments so just ignore them like you do with petulant children. After all, that is what they are.
The rest of us can then get on with writing sensible comments and debating proper football matters.
Moving onto the actual subject, I am really pleased Nix and Conlon have signed new deals. Nix deserved a 2 year deal (but I can understand why only 1 year has been offered). As for Bazza's, this is a carrot dangled in front on him, hopefully spurring him on to bigger success next season.
I am still not convinced we would even attempt to sign Boulding or Brandon. However, if we can get Beckett, that would really signify our intentions for next season.

Maybe we could sign Boulding and Brandon as stewards, or better yet, a area supervisor that would never harm a child or try and spoil the enjoyment of supporters after they PAY to watch a game of football.
