Conlon signs six-month deal

Barry Conlon has declared himself "as happy as Larry" to sign a new deal for City - for only six months.

The big striker is confident he has made the right move, even though the contract runs out in January.

Conlon, forced off early in the 2-1 defeat at Wycombe after a knock in the ribs, said: "There are other clubs in this league and the one above that I could have gone to but I'm delighted to be here.

"That's the main thing at this stage of my career. I want success and I believe that can happen at this club.

"This season's been frustrating for me but I'm as happy as Larry to stay because I think the next one will be good.

"The six-month contract works in favour of both the club and me but I'm confident enough in myself and back my ability to take it on from there."

Stuart McCall has earmarked another striker among his transfer targets for the summer, which will push Conlon down the pecking order.

The Irishman, who netted seven times, has made as many substitute appearances as starts and accepts he will have a fight on his hands to play regularly.

He added: "The gaffer will have his own ideas about who he wants to bring in and he spoke to me about strengthening the squad.

"He's looking for another striker but I'm happy with that. I don't mind that whatsoever because I am up for the challenge.

"Everybody says the same things at this time of the year about having a good season next time but I'd rather be here than at the clubs who just talk about it. I really believe we can be successful."

After spending recent years as a football nomad around the lower divisions, Conlon insists he will benefit from not being involved in the traditional summer scramble for out-of-contract players.

"This time last year I didn't have a clue what was happening. I was away on my summer holiday when I got the phone call from the gaffer to come here.

"At least now I won't have to leave it until the last minute. I've got a head start on people, which is always a bonus, and I'll make sure I stay on top of things and come back fit for pre-season."

How can anyone say mcGod is clueless!!! Your mad just a typical fair weather supporter!! next season when things WILL be going right, you'll be singing his praises. lets get behind him and the team and stop slagging them off everytime somthing goes wrong!!! STUART STUART. CTID
Shaun does have a point. Baz is either worth keeping or not. Looks like Stuart does not know if to let him go or keep him for another season. Clueless is an ideal choice of word in this case.

Maybe he will be a steward in the 2nd half of the season if they sack any.

There were repeated warnings that fans should not run on the pitch. In the circumstances the stewards did a great job. Fans should have been behind the pitchside barrier and allowed the players to do their end-of-season appreciation. Then everyone in the stands can enjoy the spectacle and applaud the players. I would suggest that well-behaved people have no problems in side Valley Parade. You have to respect other people and that includes club employees.
Spot on Peter. As you rightly pointed out, the club made every effort to keep fans off the pitch. The idiots that ran onto the pitch spoilt it for the rest of us. I believe they offered to give out free t-shirts if fans stayed off the pitch. The fact is, if kids were 'tripped' for running onto the pitch, they, and their parents attending, are to blame. Wayne Jacobs .... As for stopping fans taking cans and bottles into the ground, the stewards are only doing what the club, police and football league jointly ask them to do. They were simply doing their jobs, even if this is not what you want to hear. As for going elsewhere, good luck as all football venues adhere to the same rules, so it looks like you will be watching football on TV next season with Shaun & Mr Sensible. Talking of the latter, why are we still entertaining them. Don't even get into debates with them as they have no REAL interest in our club other than pulling it down. Finally, I think the deal for Bazza is excellent. If he doesn't perform, we have saved ourselves 6 months of wages. If he does perform, we will have had at least 6 months of his services. Even if he does knock in the goals, it is not certain he would leave. He has accepted a 6 month deal with us despite being offered deals in both league 1 and 2.
I agree that IDIOTS ran onto the pitch, I am not defending that, I just walked out a few mins in disgust at the behaviour of a certain area supervisor. That was THE moment I have turned my back on the club because of one little Hitler's treatment to young children. Believe me, if I had my mobile on me, I would have filmed it and I would have posted it all over the net. Shame the idiot. For me, it was one instance too far.

As for doing at they are told, I take it they are told to call people criminals just for the fact he DIDNT KNOW ME. I was searched because I bought a scarf, I know because I had a big smile, was in a good mood, couldn't wait till kick off, get to my seat and sport my new scarf, season ticket in my hand I am sure that is something to look out for in trouble makers. And not only that, willing to risk the 2nd half of my season ticket IF I did misbehave. If I ever see or hear a supporter retaliate at a steward at City, I will NOT back the steward up. I WILL turn a blind eye. What is good for the goose.....as they say.

On the topic of Bazza.

6 MONTHS.

Boy am I glad I am not putting my money into the club. We have had him for a FULL season, surely Stuart knows about him by now.

OBVIOUSLY NOT.

the deal with Conlan seems reasonably structured to me.

If we are going well and heading for promotion then he will be asked to stay.

If we are not or the judgement is that we are not but otherwise safe then he will be allowed to leave.

The problem emerges if we are steaming ahead and he is scoring goals for fun he literally becomes a free agent as of 31 January and can move wherever he wants to with no fee to us.

Clearly the contracts which are being handed out are receiving very serious consideration in light of the fiasco with Daley.

The contracts clearly reflect that the club is being run on a show string and cash is tight, very tight.

I wil bring attention to the stewarding at the club and the club's attitude till something is done about it, be it on message boards all over the net, national news sites on the net, newspapers, other clubs message boards. Something needs to be done and the club really needs to be ashamed at their service they provide generally. At least the kids wil not be bullied for a few months. Buy one season ticket get one free. Up until a few weeks ago, I have now come to the conclusion, You can stick it. I got them free I would give them away.

That sounds good. He could go on holiday with Thorne and then they could both miss a game. What a joke the club is.

Middle of the hills, Keep off the weed on the hills and say something positive. I will pay any price if it is fair and not a Rip Off. I feel sorry for the people easy conned whilst fat cats sit back and laugh.

Oh Sensibell and his ON & ON & ON & ON IS BACK! Look NOTSO SENSIBELL, you go to a pub the offer is two drinks for the price of one, you of course do not go in. The pub has also got an offer on of a pint at £1.50 rather than £2.50, okay so it is 3.8% rather than 4.2% which you like. So what does Mr NotsoSensibell do he walks on by and walks and walks until he finds another pub where a round for him and his imaginary fwend is £5.00. Simple economics.

In respect of Bazza, cannot fault his atitude rather his aptitude for goal scoring. Just hope he hits the net more.

Sorry about Jayne Wacobs. As the price of the season ticket is so low, it will offset the cost of the drink. In regard to the attitiude of the stewards, if they are doing what you say then 'film' them on your mobile and show it to the club, or put it on U tube if you are not happy.
