Ricky Ravenhill column: The atmosphere at Valley Parade is going to be superb tomorrow.
To get over 12,700 season-ticket holders is absolutely unbelievable support. It’s the most we’ve sold for a number of years and I know they are going to make plenty of noise.
We’re so grateful for that support and it was fantastic at Huddersfield. I think they outsung the home fans – but that isn’t a surprise anymore.
Now everyone’s really looking forward to our first game at home and hopefully we can make that big crowd count.
Carlisle are in a different situation to us after losing heavily. They will want to bounce back and show that was just a horrible one-off.
Likewise, we want to get up and running ourselves by registering our first win.
It’s going to be a bit cat and mouse. But we are at home and the onus is on us to make that count and earn the three points.
We’ve had a tough start against a Championship team from this year and one from last. They were always going to be two really hard games but we’ve done really well and everyone involved has been a credit to the club.
It shows the competition for places. The gaffer needed to improve with the step-up a level and he’s brought a few new players in.
There are going to be times when you are left out as I was on Saturday. Sometimes you are out of favour so it’s important that when you get a chance, you make the most of it.
The manager mentioned there would be an opportunity against Huddersfield and it was nice to play again. Hopefully a few of us who played in that game have given the gaffer something to think about.
I thought we stuck to our game plan well. We knew they would pass it around but we kept our shape and made it difficult.
We were a bit disappointed with the two goals but overall it was a decent performance. We didn’t get embarrassed or anything like that.
Some of the lads were down about it afterwards but the manager was pleased with how we’d played against a good side.
