City skipper Gary Jones hailed today’s play-off final win the “best moment of his life” as the Bantams destroyed Northampton 3-0.

Phil Parkinson’s men had been thumped 5-0 by Swansea in the Capital One Cup final in February but they ended their marathon campaign on a glorious high back at Wembley this afternoon.

First-half goals from James Hanson, Rory McArdle and Nahki Wells gave the Bantams a thoroughly deserved success in front of their jubilant supporters.

Midfield maestro Jones said: “It’s unbelievable and probably the best moment of my life.

“We thought we had unfinished business from the Swansea game and we had a gameplan.

“We knew Northampton were direct and we knew we had to get it down and play.

“We scored three goals which were absolutely fantastic.”

Jones has enjoyed an outstanding campaign and admitted: “As you get older, moments like this don’t come around too often.

“I’m just delighted today for everyone involved with Bradford City.

“The supporters have been unbelievable all season and when you’ve Nahki and Hanson up front, you’ve always got a chance.

“There’s no reason why we can’t go up into League One and make an impression.”
