Hard work is starting to pay off for Chib

I was really pleased to see Chib Chilaka in the goals this week.

He’s one of the educated crowd who have turned up this season and he’s a great lad, really down to earth.

Chib is always working hard on his game and you’ll often see him down at Apperley Bridge on our day off putting that extra time in.

He’s had a good run of games on loan at Harrogate and signed off with a hat-trick last weekend.

And then he followed it up with two more in the reserves and could well have scored more.

It will do wonders for his confidence and I’m sure he will be pressing for a chance in the first team before the end of the season.

He’s a big strong unit and if he gets in front of you in the box, it’s really difficult to get past him.

Obviously we’ve struggled to score goals all season and it will be interesting to see how Chib does if the opportunity comes his way.

Maybe we should try to sign Rogerio Ceni, that goalkeeper in Brazil who has just scored his 100th goal!

It’s a good achievement for an outfield player – I’m struggling to reach that in my career.

It shows how mad they are in South America.

I’ve never played in a game when a keeper has scored, although I know Scott Dobie was at Carlisle when Jimmy Glass got the most famous goal ever.

The Brazilian guy takes all the penalties and free-kicks for the team but I somehow can’t imagine Lenny or Jonny doing the same. If they had a free-kick charged down it would take them 20 minutes to get back again.

It was good to see England put in two good performances in a new formation. It didn’t really work for us but they looked a totally different team.

Maybe it’s different at that level with the quality of the players but I was really impressed.

Fabio Capello was getting hammered for only knowing 100 words of English – I’ve worked with plenty of managers who know more than 100 swearwords!

But he’s in a no-win situation as England coach. If they do all right nobody says anything but if they struggle he gets slated like Steve McClaren did.
