Give the captain’s armband to Terry

England have had nearly as many captains this season as us.

But I think it’s the right time now to give the armband back to John Terry.

That might sound like I’ve changed my mind, because I felt at the time that he was right to be stripped of it.

What he did was wrong and had an affect on the rest of the squad.

But in hindsight, the way they have gone through captains lately shows that he is still the best man for the job.

While others never seem to be fit, Terry is there every match, whether he has got a knock or not. Regardless of what has gone on off the pitch, he’s always played like an absolute leader.

Ask any player who they would want as their captain and they’d say Terry. I would love to play alongside someone like that who always puts himself on the line no matter what.

Meanwhile, we’ve got the chance to win three on the bounce on Saturday for the first time since the start of last season.

But we’re not going to get carried away. We haven’t done it yet and there have been several times in the past year when we’ve been in this position and not kept it going.

Northampton are on a bad run after losing the last four but they are in a similar position to where we were a couple of weeks ago so we know things can turn quickly.

We’ve found a bit of form and luck to get a couple of results, which has given us some breathing space, but nobody will be resting on their laurels because we can easily get sucked back in.

Hopefully we can settle a score with Northampton, because the game down there was awful. We didn’t perform at all.

They had just come off the back of beating Liverpool and it was like we stood off too much because we were still congratulating them.
