It’s really special to train with Cooper at Bradford City

Lee Bullock column

I had a little spring in my step on Wednesday when we met Colin Cooper for the first time.

I watched him play loads of times for the Boro and being trained by someone I used to support was a bit special.

It will be nice to ask him about some of the stories of playing alongside all the big-hitters during his time up there.

Things have totally changed since the gaffer and now Colin have come in. You could feel the other night that the atmosphere has been lifted all round.

Anybody who decided not to watch Barca and Arsenal were treated to a great game at Valley Parade.

Goalline technology might have proved that our winner did not cross the line – but if that’s the case, who needs to bring it in?

It was an unbelievable strike from Tom and the linesman must have thought that it deserved a goal anyway.

He certainly ran off as if he was adamant it had gone in and none of us were going to argue.

The result could have gone either way and Lenny made a couple of great saves, so it was a big win for us.

We’ve been through a spell of tough games against the top teams, apart from Stockport, and now we can get back to trying to take points off those in and around us.

Luckily the excitement of Tom’s goal has taken the attention away from my yellow card at Gillingham.

The lads all had a laugh when I got booked while I was warming up by the corner flag. But I don’t know what else people expected me to do.

The ball came straight at me and they wanted to take a quick throw-in before our defence was set up. So I hid it behind my back and refused to let their lad move me out of the way.

I don’t think the gaffer would have been too happy if I’d let them get on with it and they had scored from the throw. I’d have probably been walking home!

So instead I took one for the team – and I’d do the same if it happens again.
