Phil Parkinson predicts Nahki Wells will get even better after the exciting striker committed his future to City for the next three years.

Wells removed the speculation over his future by signing the new much-improved deal that has been on the table since last season finished.

It will keep him at Valley Parade until the end of June 2015. It is a huge pre-match boost ahead of this afternoon’s home clash with fellow pace-setters Port Vale.

And boss Parkinson was delighted to get rid of the uncertainty over the Bermudian’s position.

He said: “We didn’t want to let Nahki’s contract situation affect him or affect the club’s progress.

“We didn’t want to get into that scenario. That’s why we’re so pleased to have got it resolved now.

“We want to keep our best young players and Nahki is certainly one of those. He’s made really good progress in the last 12 months and I’m confident he will keep improving as a player.

“I know he has got a hunger to be successful and a real desire to be the best he can.

“Nahki will keep improving, there’s no question about that. He has got a real focus.

“It’s great for us. He is ambitious and has a great attitude to do well.”

Wells has burst on to the scene since former City winger Mark Ellis first brought him to the club’s attention.

He established his place alongside James Hanson during the second half of last season and scored 12 goals, including a hat-trick at Northampton in April.

Alan Connell’s arrival from Swindon has upped the competition for the current campaign but Wells is still level top scorer with Hanson on five.

He came off the bench on Tuesday to spark the dramatic comeback win over Burton with two late goals.

Having feared at one stage that City could lose Wells next summer, Parkinson can now relish his pace and shooting power continuing to unhinge opposition defenders.

Parkinson added: “Nahki is a talented player and his biggest attribute is the ability to finish with both feet. He is a very cool finisher.

“Getting players who are natural goalscorers is difficult and Nahki has definitely got that attribute.”
