Nathan Doyle keen for Bradford City momentum to gather pace

Just when you thought we’d seen the back of the atrocious forecasts, Nathan Doyle is predicting an avalanche.

But don’t panic with the winter survival kit just yet. According to the teak-tough midfielder, the only ones likely to be submerged are City’s future opponents.

Doyle is fast warming to his task in his second spell at Valley Parade . Like Gary Jones, his other half in the engine room, he can see improvements with every game.

He said: “We’ve done well in the first eight games in the league. We’re really gelling together now.

“There have been a lot of changes in the summer and at the start of the season it was a bit different for everyone. But now we’re winning games and playing well.

“With this busy period, we can take the performance from one game straight into the next. That momentum keeps snowballing and hopefully it can turn into an avalanche.”

The Doyle and Jones double act is arguably the best central midfield in League Two and the former Barnsley battler is amazed by the non-stop graft of his supposedly veteran team-mate.

Doyle said: “Gaz is 35 but he plays like he’s 25. I hope I can do that when I’m his age.

“But that’s a credit to him. He has kept himself fit and does the right things around the club day in, day out.

“It’s working well with us. Gaz has got the experience and we’re both talkers through the game. It also helps when the team are doing well.

“If you’re getting results then people stand out, it’s not just us. The back four have been doing a good job and the front two and wingers.

“Everybody understands their jobs and sticks to the basics. Once you get those foundations in place, then hopefully we can express ourselves.”

Phil Parkinson has been keen to engender that team mentality since putting this squad together – and Doyle insists that players are not frightened to have a word if they feel others are letting standards drop.

He said: “If anybody starts slacking, then everyone is on their case. It’s a good thing for a winning team.

“If someone’s not doing their job, it’s not only down to the manager and his staff to tell them. We’ve got that mentality within the squad that we’ll tell each other between the players.

“Nothing’s personal. You’re with the lads every day so you know they don’t mean anything by it.

“If anything, they are trying to help you improve. As long as we can keep building as a team, then everything’s good.”

Doyle was restricted to the role of chief cheerleader from the bench on Tuesday as City roared into the Capital One Cup last 16 on a night of gut-wrenching tension.

It was the fourth win on the bounce and sets up perfectly tomorrow’s clash with fellow high-fliers Port Vale.

“We knew it was ‘roll your sleeves up’ time a few weeks back when we came off at Rotherham with a bad defeat,” said Doyle.

“It wasn’t a case of ‘oh, we’ve lost, keep your head down’ because everybody wanted to get straight back out into a winning mentality. We knew the areas where we could improve.

“The response since has been amazing but at the same time we need to keep our feet on the ground.

“Every week is a big one and we’re just looking to take the momentum from the Burton game into Port Vale.”

I think this sort of comment last season and previous season turned out most weeks to be rather hollow, but this season the lads are most definitely backing up their own media hype on the pitch more often than not.

With that attitude I think that the 'blips' should be much fewer and far between - or at least I hope so!

Won £45 last week, hoping City can pay me back some of the money I lost on us last year!!

Bring it!

They say, " No news is good news" but sometimes the converse of this is true!
Certainly most of the news re: BCAFC in recent weeks has been good and one of the bi-products of this apart from the pleasure for the fans/manager/players et, is that comments on sites like this have been greatly reduced in number.

We all just quietly hope that 'things will tick along' as they have been. But at the moment, there's very little if no controversy or anything 'to get worked up about.' So the supporters are NOT polarised around the pros/cons of...just about anyting at the moment.

Well done to 'PP' and the team for creating/maintaining that situation. And, though I enjoy 'posting' and a good argument...LONG MAY IT CONTINUE!!

PS: Here's to another three points tomorrow!

Jones has been getting most of the praise and rightly so. but IMO Doyle is one of the main reasons our play has improved so much. he controls the pace of the game, holding it up when needed. i thought it was interesting that he was rested in the cup. to me Doyle and Ravenhill would be a more natural pairing than Jones/ Ravenhill. was he rested instead of Jones because he is too valuable to risk or the team can not do without Jones?

Think its probably just a case of giving him a breather Vic nothing more really....think the idea when he came was to ease him in slowly but due to proving to be such a key player he's pretty much played every game when possibly not 100% match fit so may have needed a bit of recuperation time. Agree he is able to control a game and he seems to be able to find time on the ball that others can't. Surprised a higher league club didn't snap him up to be honest.

Personally I think Jones is some form of alien and is the type of guy who would be able to play all that match and then get up the next day and do it all again! which is perhaps why Doyle got a rest rather than him.

I think where Doyle can get a grip of the pace of the game, Jones sets the standard and tempo the team play at. A great midfield combination and probably the best in this division.

When we lost Dave Syers to Doncaster I was very disappointed and said I would be amazed if PP could achieve his aim of bringing in a replacement who was just as effective as Syers has been for us. Well, I think in Gary Jones He has done what he said he would and going by this guys phenomenal, work-rate, fitness and attitude to the game he will capable of two or three more seasons. I like to watch the players and how they deal with being behind and effectively beaten in a game. When we were losing 4-0 at against Rotherham Jones was still running around as if the game was 0-0. He reminded me so much of McCall that day, fully committed to the cause and always giving 100% effort for the Club and it's supporters right until that final whistle blows regardless of the score-line. We can't ask for anything more . And that is why that type of player will always be regarded in the highest esteem by supporters. What an example for any sportsman to try to emulate.

Yep think your both right as for Jones i also think he is some sort of machine we should start calling him Arnie!
In Davis,Jones and Doyle i think we have the 3 best players in our league IMO.
