James Meredith: Bradford City can cope with Cod Army

Fleetwood may be newcomers to the league but City defender James Meredith knows them well.

The Aussie left back faced the Cod Army during his time at York and is not daunted by the challenge of toppling a side strongly tipped to go straight through League Two.

He said: “Fleetwood were good last year and walked the league. But against York, I didn’t think they were as good as their points and position reflected.

“They will be a good team and have obviously spent money. They will be full of confidence after getting promoted.

“Fleetwood have got a team of ball players and battlers but so have we. As time goes on, we’ll gel together more and I expect big things from Bradford City.

“We’ve got a squad with a winning mentality and a good attitude towards professionalism and working hard. It’s just about finding our identity as a team.”

At least the players won’t have the searing heat to contend with tonight. Temperatures pitch-side at Gillingham touched 36 degrees centigrade.

Meredith said: “It came out of nowhere because I don’t think we’ve had one hot day the whole year. But you can see we’re a fit team. Pre-season was tough and it’s made a difference.”

We shouldn't fear anybody at home. Parky has brought in players who have the pedigree so lets hope some of this rubs off on the rest of them. As has been said in the past, break the league down into sections and aim to win I've section at a time.

0-2 to Fleetwood i think. Facing an unknown team this early in the season, who'll be treating a trip to VP as a cup final, like what Accrington did in thier first season. After their 0-0 the other day, theyre still looking for their first historic win and goal, and we've a habit of helping other teams break records.

Pessimistic, yes. I hope it doesnt happen though.

I'm confident that we will get the three points tonight. Rambo, you are right about Fleetwood treating it as their cup final. You compare all the L/2 stadiums to VP, and our stadium is the wembley of L/2 and all visiting teams see their game as a cup final and gives them that lift and incentive. Even tho it's our stadium, we dont seem to think that way and maybe we should start doing this and not just think of it as a normal lg. game.

Indeed. Its just pants how its their first away game which theyll be pumped up for and it had to be at our place. Couldn't get a quiet non-event at somewhere like Barnet, noooooo. We had to get lumped with them.

I think more OPTIMISTIC than PESSIMISTIC at only 0-2.

2-1 to us tonight. I think we will come out of a closely contested game by a winning margin of 1 goal tonight.

Again giving the idiot much craved for airtime! Ignore him and his ilk and he'll disappear like " Left wanting" disappeared years ago! Unless its him in a different guise of course! Tough game tonight which will probably be a better litmus test then Gillingham was to see how good we are. Doyle has to start for me! Barnsley fans love him and can't believe we have him. Had a fall out with Keith Hill so hope that works in our favour.
