Scientific approach is just right for Bradford City new boy Meredith

James Meredith reckons City’s fierce training runs have given him a glimpse of the winning mentality needed for next term.

The Aussie new boy admits that nobody wants to get left behind during the pre-season slogs at Apperley Bridge.

And he believes that bodes well for coping with the pressure to come over the next ten months.

He said: “Everyone here is competitive and I’ve found that out in the running. They all want to win.

“You can feel that spirit already but that’s what you want. You’ve got to earn the right to win.

“We know the expectation level here but that pressure should excite you. You should want the opportunity to achieve something at a club like this.”

Left back Meredith has settled in quickly after leaving York following their promotion back to the league.

And he has been impressed with the more scientific approach to City’s build-up work.

“It’s different to York and more organised in terms of the days and the schedule of training. There’s more focus on strength conditioning and aerobic fitness.

“There’s a good team here to build up a base fitness for what we need to do in pre-season.

“They still flog us but it’s a lot more specific. They really know what they’re doing.

“I definitely can’t wait to get the footballs out because my legs are sore. But that hard work will pay off.”

With Andy Gray looking more unlikely, Phil Parkinson continues his hunt for another striker.

The City boss has made seven signings so far and is pleased with the way they have settled in to the group.

He said: “The first full week has gone well. The lads have been in every morning and afternoon and we’ve got a further test day today.

“The ones that we are happy with - which at the moment is them all - will have the weekend off. After a week of five double sessions, they will need it.

“We’re absolutely delighted with the way they’ve come back and their attitude. The mood in the camp so far is very good.”
