Nahki Wells is concentrating on coming back ‘bigger and stronger’ for City next season
Nahki Wells has assured City fans he will not be leaving Valley Parade during the summer.
The 21-year-old is contracted for next season after the Bantams took up an option in his current deal, and the club are looking to tie him down properly on a four-year deal to fend off rival suitors.
According to the Bermuda press, Wells – who burst onto the scene with 12 goals in his first campaign at Valley Parade, including the club’s first hat-trick for four years – is attracting the attention of Premier League new boys Reading, Championship-bound Charlton Athletic and Peterborough.
But despite being monitored by several clubs in recent months, Wells says he will be staying put for at least another year, while boss Phil Parkinson insists he will not be sold.
“I’m definitely there for next season,” said Wells. “I have to make a few decisions on whether I’m there long-term but I can’t go into too much detail on that part.
“You do hear a lot of rumours about big clubs sniffing around for you. (The rumours) have some truth behind them but you can’t afford to listen to the hype because you will lose your focus.
“If teams want to watch me then that only gives me more motivation to achieve things. League Two is a good standard but I do want to play at a higher level.”
City’s Bermudian hot-shot has no fears about being a marked man next season.
His emergence has raised expectations for the future and Wells is confident he can deliver.
He is not scared of opposing defenders wising up to him and has pro-mised to come back bigger and better.
“I look back at a successful first year and I’ve got good feelings for the next one,” said Wells.
“I know other teams will be doing their homework on me but I’ll be doing the same. I will work hard through the summer to come back stronger and a bigger boy.
“The club expect me to do well but I’m willing to take that extra responsibility on my shoulders. They will see a much better player, more mature and hopefully there are a lot of good things to come.
“First of all we wanted to finish the season strong and now we have to take that momentum forward. I’ve got high hopes that we can do the business.”
Strike partner James Hanson is keen to see Wells strike an agreement with City.
Hanson said: “I’m sure they will be trying to get Nahki on a long contract. He’s a young, exciting player and we enjoy playing together.
“We’ve formed a good partnership together and there is a real understanding between us which has got to benefit the club. I look forward to playing with him.”

High risk strategy from Wells but.................

looks like Steve Evans at Rotherham has been given some dosh:offers for Matt Tubbs who he sold to Bournemouth for £800k turned down as well as an offer for Midson from Wimbledon. Looks like new stadium and press for promotion with big spending on players is going to be the order of the day for Rotherham.

Amazing we haven't bought a player yet we haven't kicked a ball yet and some on here mention the relegation where do you people get off? Rotherham may have money to spend but it doesn't mean automatic promotion as we have all seen with previous season when City have spent big. It could be as happened with City that other teams relish

The fact is, I could go onto the PFA list of out of contract players and make a wish-list. If I then paid them big bucks, they would possibly sign for the club. Does that really mean I have "spent big", or haveI just paid over-the-odds on a rejected footballer? There is a massive difference.
