Flynn and Fagan leaving Bradford City
1:30pm Saturday 28th April 2012 in Bantams
By Simon Parker, Bradford City Reporter
Michael Flynn and Craig Fagan have played their last games for City.
The club this afternoon announced that Flynn and Chris Mitchell have agreed to cancel their contracts and Fagan is in the process of doing so.
Flynn, who joined in August 2009, played 104 games and scored 14 goals.
Fagan netted eight in 35 games after joining in September - the third time he had teamed up with Phil Parkinson.
Mitchell, signed last summer from Falkirk, scored once in 16 appearances. He had not played since the JPT defeat at Oldham in December.

As their contracts end in a couple of months anyway, are we going to save much by releasing them slightly early. That is, unless the players had been told they weren't part of the plans next season and so asked to leave early so they had a better chance of finding new clubs? If so, did they go without pay for April, May and June (and perhaps July too)? Is that where we save and thus benefit?
.
Can't say I'm surprised about Flynn and Mitchell, but I am with Fagan. I wish all three good luck in their future careers, especially Mitchell who never got a proper look in at City under PP and will now have to start all over again.

Flynn I wish him the best but this season and last he's not been at his best and its time for new blood.
Mitchell I liked him as a player and I would've liked him to stay. At the beginning of the season I thought he was one of our better players but PP never liked what he saw and I dont know why. Hope he does well where ever he goes

PP has the ability to attract quality players and I've every confidence in his ability.
The truth is we have a squad that is lingering at the foot of the basement division and have been there for 2 seasons now.
I've said all along that given a full pre-season and the complete pick of available free transfers to choose from, then PP can assemble a very good squad for next term.
There might be some surprises in the next few weeks but I wouldn't dwell on who leaves as I'm 100% convinced they'll be replaced by much better players.
I'd be slightly disappointed if Hannah went to leave as I think he has the potential to take the bottom two leagues by storm if only he could get a chance but like I said, I'm fully behind PP and if he manages to bring in the likes of Etuhu or Bogdanovic, then we're in for one hell of a season next year.

Very happy Flynn and Fagan are leaving. Ive never liked Fagan and apart from a couple of games he has been poor. Granted he is not a right winger and its not his fault he played there but its a good decision to get rid. Flynn I wish him the best but this season and last he's not been at his best and its time for new blood. Mitchell I liked him as a player and I would've liked him to stay. Note Chelsea (after trying it out against Arsenal with success) employed one of PP's tactics this week - bank of four plus bank of five !

I was hoping Fagan would play upfront next year but he will have been on big money which PP can use on an actual winger. Fair enough I suppose considering season ticket sales haven't been great. Flynn has been injury prone and looked like his legs have gone this season so fair enough again. Good luck to both players.

Mitchell was never going to succeed under PP, despite having some ability he was one of those players that seemed to get frozen out despite our problems at right back/midfield and his performance of the season against Barnet.
Fagan was probably on good money so why he was played out of position is an odd one. He did briefly show what he was capable of but was duly put back out on the right wing again?, im sure his performances didnt justify his salary. Just hope the rumours that Will Atkinson is staying are off the mark.

I also expect to see Ramsden, Branston, Davies, Kozluk, Williams, Atkinson, Dagnall and either one of the 2 first choice keepers to leave.
.
Will Seip be offered another deal? Either way, we need two new full-backs, a central defender, a right-footed winger and another than can play equally on either flank, plus at least another striker. Will that be one plus Stewart or maybe one plus Smalley?

Thought Flynn deserved better than being paid up and bombed out with 2 games to go, although I agree with the decision to let him go. His 1st season was his best when he was pinging shots at goal from all over the place and was always a threat. That side of his game seems to have all but disappeared now and injuries/lack of form seems to have taken its toll. He's been a great professional for us though.

Stewart was the first to reply when he implied that he knew nothing of PP's plan to terminate his contract. Syers then posted that he refuted the claims he had turned down a contract.
.
I wonder if he has had courtesy of speaking to Steve Williams yet? Before the game, Pulse radio interviewed Ramsden and asked what his contract position was. Rammers said he knew nothing and was just concentrating on playing and keeping fit. Surprise, surprise, Parkinson told Radio Leeds that he would offer contracts to Bully and Rammers at the end of the season. Does PP only do deals through the media??????

I thought people said Parkinson was nothing if not professional. It appears he is a 'nothing' then......!

Syers not agreeing a contract perhaps gives the clue as to why he hardly ever starts a game now. We may lose a player of star quality because of this,
Mitchell is considered too light weight but has NEVER let the club down and has never been given a real chnace.
Faagan is played when he cannot beat a man, rarely gets decent crosses in:his corner and free kick ratio to gaols scored from thse is abysmal.
If Mitchell is lightweieght waht is Atkinson?

Dunno what happened with Stewart on twitter but Syers has already said it was a mix up and he has spoke with PP. If he turned down a new deal it clearly shows PP wants him, but he has also played pretty poor and had a lot of injuries this year.
Sad to lose Fagan, but wages were probably too high and he wanted to go home. Some people just refused to notice the good he could do. Yes he did have some bad games, but also was out of position almost every one of them. He looked very good at Barnet as a striker.
And i can't imagine he will go through with the Atkinson deal now.

He didn't provide enough crosses, he hasn't scored enough goals, any RM would have contributed as much if not more and wouldn't have been on anything like the wages Fagan was on. Good business in getting rid of both he and Flynn.

I think PP has had to let these players go to increase his chances of bringing in a right sided winger we have plenty in central midfield. I hope he gives the younger players a chance to show what they can do in closed season. We have not been producing enough young players of late. So thanks to all the out going players for their contribution just hope none come back to haunt us re: the Kevin Ellison episode. I think Will Atkinson has been a disappointment maybe he will be next to leave?
I think it's a shame they don't get the chance to be around next week. Flynn in particular has been a top pro for city and deserves a send off. I know some don't like fagan but I think he has brought something to the team with his aggression and no little nouse, we probably can't afford him though. Good luck to Mitchell too. A classy looking player on the ball with some excellent delivery. Hope they all do well wherever they go.
Flynn has been a good servant but his form has dipped over the last two years and he isn't getting any younger, injuries etc take their toll and his position has been filled by equal if not better players.
