Adam Baker celebrated his first professional contract by scoring both goals as City reserves beat Scunthorpe 2-1 in the Central League Division One East this afternoon.

The 18-year-old struck in both halves to earn the Bantams their seventh win of the season.

The home side featured three trialists, including midfielder Josh Windass, who has just been released by Huddersfield Town. His dad Dean was in the stands.

Baker’s determination forced the opening goal, the striker chasing a long punt forward and holding off Niall Canavan to poke the ball away from keeper Josh Lillis and knock into the empty net.

Lillis denied him another with a reaction save but Baker had his second five minutes after the break. Trialist forward Joe Leesley fed the pass through for Baker to net from eight yards.

Scunthorpe pulled one back late on from Connor Jennings’ header, and Matt Godden was denied an equaliser by an offside flag.

City Reserves: Annerson, Harrop, Bass, Windass, McGivern, Fisher, Rowe, Sellars, Leesley, Baker, Marshall. Subs: Brown, Nanje-Ngoe, Harrison, Swain, Tongue.
