Bradford City: Ritchie Jones out to upset the form book at Torquay

Ritchie Jones claims: Anyone can beat anyone in this league Ritchie Jones claims: Anyone can beat anyone in this league

Ritchie Jones believes City can conjure up the spirit of Southend and upset League Two’s hottest team on Saturday.

Torquay’s amazing run of seven straight wins has powered them into the third automatic promotion spot – and level on points with Paul Sturrock’s top dogs.

Tuesday’s victory at Cheltenham was their fourth 1-0 result on the bounce and they have only conceded one goal in the last nine home games.

City have the division’s second-worst record on the road with just one win but that was against the leaders. So midfielder Jones refuses to be ruffled by the trek to fortress Plainmoor.

He said: “Anyone can beat anyone in this league, even those at the top of the table. We went to Southend and beat them so we can approach every game the same.

“We’ve been to League One teams in the cup and got results so it won’t faze us. We’ll go down there feeling positive and hopefully we can pick up more points.”

Jones stepped in against Port Vale after David Syers was ruled out with a back spasm and he delivered a hard-running display to push his claims to stay in the side for the weekend.

He said: “There’s a lot of competition but that keeps you on your toes. You’ve got to perform in training day in, day out and make the most of it when you’re selected.

“I’m not sure how much ground I covered but I was trying to help the full back out a few times. You’ll have to ask the fitness coach!

“Everybody put a shift in. We knew it was going to be tough on the pitch and it wasn’t the prettiest of games.

“But we dug in until the end and Davo (Andrew Davies) put his head in where it hurts to get us the goal. He’s so good in the air and when we threw him up front, we knew there was always a chance he’d get on the end of something.

“We never gave up and it would have been majorly disappointing not to come away with a draw. Some times you’ve got to play ugly and we got the point to take into the next game.”

How can you make a factual comment before the event has taken place ?

Sigh, doesn't the first sentence give away the fact the statement is made in jest.

We play better against teams at the top away draws at the gills and swindon a win at southend so I wouldnt bet against us getting something however what showed on tues is once Hanson went off we had no real threat upfront and that worries me Hannah and Smalley are not good enough. For me Wells must start but who at the side of him I wouldnt like to say if Hanson isnt fit. Hanson may not be the best striker in the world but he is the best we have fact.

Just have our wingers doing the defenders jobs leaving them free to mark fresh air and we SHOULD win everything that comes into the box and at best hope for a clean sheet..and be on the back foot for 90 minutes and give their keeper his easiest game of the season...

Interesting to see whether Jones keeps his place Saturday. He had a decent game Tuesday, but you dont always get your reward with this manager... depending who you are. Flynn nearing full fitness and Syers probably available again so we shall see...

I know who I'd put up front with Wells but he's out on loan again.Darren Stephenson, never gets a chance.

Flynn did a job as a makeshift striker, didn't he? Probably not ideal but might be worth a punt.

He is the best big striker we have, although i though Davis did just as well.

Off topic a bit, rumour has it the reason Fagan was left out altogether against Vale is that allegedly, one more appearance triggers the offer of a new contract for next season. Wonder how much truth there is in that?

Rumour untrue according to Simon Parker's recent Tweet. That's good to hear.

Think we may struggle with "Deadbeats"......9-1
-1 formation!!.
We will need a "REALLY BIG BUS TO PARK"!!

"HAPPY VALLEY-EXCESS ALL AREAS!"

'INSIDE THE MIND OF SIMON PARKER!'

SP was sitting fidgetting in front of his laptop at VP. WHAT to write about City in today's 'T&A??!! His editor was constantly badgering him for 'exclusives' ..AND to always keep 'it' upbeat. UPBEAT!! Easy for 'him' to say!!

SP thinks: I've just about wrung the last drop out of 'gung-ho' comments from the players. Usually after one of these..we fall flat on our faces!! What 'angle' can I come up with this time?!! If only I could get an 'exclusive.'

His mind wandered to thoughts of the sort of 'material' his fellow journalists were writing right now in local papers in Glasgow, Manchester and London (or even in Leeds/Huddersfield!!
) Surely there must be SOMETHING!!

Half an hour later, after he'd wasted 20 minutes playing 'solitaire' and his writers' block still had him in its grip... he happened to see Richie Jones walking past, a few yards away.

SP: Any comments for the paper, Richie?

RJ: Oh, we're all 'super confident' for Saturday Simon!! 100%-as always!!

(As he walked past Simon noticed RJ's fingers crossed behind his back!!)

SP: Oh, well....here we go again!!
(it's a living!!)

Well I know FACT it has happened before.

But I salute the club for being in control of these situations.

But I dont salute using wingers to do the defenders jobs and then having no attacking outlet, there is only 1 person top blame for that. Either he tells them to or doesn't tell them not to when we are losing 1-0 and at HOME!!!

It has sent me crazy I think!!

You can't expect SP to be too upbeat Cityman.

He supports Pompy and writes about Bradford City...I mean, how bad can it get!

We're lucky the guy is still here to write us a story.. however bad they may be

We could stick Branston,Smalley or Oliver up front with Wells or we could play our 1-6-3-1 formation using a flat back six.
Or maybe we need an emergency loan player like Rotherham did (Harrad).
Still we have a large squad who are more than capable of playing ugly even without Hanson.
Being optimistic i think all the (few) teams bellow us will loose points
- please ! -
and i am not going to look how many points we are above the rock bottom club anymore - it's far too worrying.

Sigh, doesn't the first sentence give away the fact the statement is made in jest.
In a word no, its the second sentence, "City won,t win at Torquay, fact" sigh (meant in jest of course)

"Anybody can beat anybody in this leaque" Jones being the latest player to trot this one out.
Only problem being is that we have only managed it six times with only Plymouth winning less (5).
That is fact.

I'll write it in crayons for you to help you understand.
Last time I made such a statement we beat Southend in their back yard, so the "it worked before" bit was in reference to that.
