Andrew Davies pops up with late Bradford City leveller to rescue draw after pitch battle

Luke Oliver congratulates fellow defender Andrew Davies on his injury-time equaliser Luke Oliver congratulates fellow defender Andrew Davies on his injury-time equaliser

Phil Parkinson savoured City’s last-gasp equaliser and then warned Valley Parade fans: Home games won’t be pretty.

Andrew Davies headed home in stoppage time to rescue a point last night after a mistake by Port Vale goalkeeper Stuart Tomlinson.

After back-to-back postponements, City’s first game for 17 days was hampered by a heavy pitch – and Parkinson admitted that the playing surface is going to be a long-term problem.

He said: “It was very difficult to play on. The supporters have got to understand it’s going to be ugly here from now until the end of the season.

“We’ve just got to grind out results because the pitch is not conducive to any sort of football.

“It’s not the groundsman’s fault at all. The conditions have been poor for him but it’s very hard to play on.

We just ask for the commitment and desire from the lads to keep this home record we’ve got going

I have never been so bored at a match has i was at last night.....must admit the pitch was attrocious - the ball had no roll which hindered us - these conditions made it the very boring match it was. City were bad yes but the only positive is that they continued fighting to the death!!!!
.
I'd love them to string a few wins together so we can totally forget about relegation and then look forward to the end of the season!!! AGAIN

As a 'poster' perhaps thought by some on here as a 'negatron' (I don't think I am!!), I am going to make my comments only positive today. That might make me a 'positron' but I do admit occsionally to being a 'sarcasatron' or even a 'sceptatron' but hopefully not a 'cynicatron!!'

a) Jon McLaughlin had another good game-consistently reliable-catching cleanly etc

b) Richie Jones stood out as giving his all. Plenty of 'bite'/excellent movement/quick-think
ing/thoughtful distribution.

c) Matt Fry had a decent debut.

d) Mark Oliver made a satisfactory 'return'

PS: (nearly forgot..oops!!)

e) Andrew Davies got 'stuck in' and got his goal!

Unfortunately yet again I missed the goal having left early due to the fact that for 80 mins I was BORED. It is no good blaming the ref or the pitch, you have to look to the manager and players. The new season ticket offer is going to have to be really really really good for me to consider getting one for next season.

Was glad to see Luke Oliver back and thought him and Jon McLaughlin had a decent game.

Cannot wait for the next game!!!!

Poor game, the Vale goal was a good one.
Wells tried to do too much at the end still a point is a point but people need their heads testing if they are travelling to Torquay to watch that.

I'm going to be very honest here and it's my own opinion like everyone on here. Port Vale looked a more organised side and very quick and positive on the break out of defence. Their goal was quality. As for Our lot, We were absolute garbage No creativity whatsoever the whole game. Defencively we were pretty solid and once again Olly was solid. Jones & Davis showed that THEY wanted to win a football match. OK. The pitch was bad and I thought the ref was an utter joke. Some people I spoke to said they thought the ref had a good game and didn't do much wrong. I just asked the same question as all the others sat around me, In the final seconds when Wellsy stole the ball and set off running, why didn't he just shoot instead of trying to run it in? It's an undeserved point stolen in the last minute with a very lucky goal. (and it's happened to us quite a few times in the past)

I for one am heading down to Torquay on Saturday - I also think we may be able to play a bit of football as the Plainmoor pitch will be a whole lot better than ours - it is the English Riviera after all.

Good point in the end - I think the posters who expect slick football on a surface like that need to hav a slight reality check.

We def need a few wins though and no doubt!

Think if Hanson had stayed on and Wells
had started it would have been a different story. Don't understand why Parky started Hannah but at least he wasn't too stubborn to persist with him.
Can't remember their keeper having to
make a save until late in the second half
but you can't argue with City's battling spirit or refusal to give up.
Keep going boys.

C'mon Shaun m8. Don't blame Parky for last night's garbage. Vale were much better than us and were a very hard team to break down. Parky had a very strong line up there and It's the players you should have a go at and not Parky.

I really don’t get the Jones thing. He has obvious talent and lightning pace but has he a phobia about leaving the centre circle? While their no 8 (the goal scorer) was steaming forward at any opportunity Jones (and Ravenhill) do not support the forwards. Why?

Question to anyone including Parky himself if he wants to defend the performance and the pitch and any fane who wantsn to answer the questions.....

When a team is at HOME and LOSING 1-0 why would you remain negative?

Scenario which happened on 3 occasions last night during the second half and has happened week in week out since McGod's days.

City are defending from open play, Fry, Oliver and Davies are marking 1 (yes 1) of their men in our box...
Reid is marking 1 on the edge of our box and we have 1 man stuck up front marked by several of their men.

What would you do as manager?

1) think its okay as the pitch is in poor condition?

2) Drag back our only forward to help out just in case their 1 man in the box beats 3

3) Leave it as it is, because we will clear it to our only striker and hope he keeps thwe ball and not aloow them to get it back and keep us on the back foot

4) Or tell the defenders (if at all when losing) we only need 1 spare man at max in our box (not 2), tell one of them to push Reid on and mark the man Reid was marking...

I think Parky would choose answer 1 or 3, Peter Taylor would go for option 2......

I would like to think whoever the City manager was would go for option 4...because 1, we are losing, 2, we are at home, 3 9 times out of 10 Oliver/Davies WILL get to the ball before their only man in the box...

It's dull, its negative and we are losing, those ingredients are the recipe for disaster!!!

For the 1st time I am seriously considering non-purchase of a season ticket, it will have to be cheap to make me buy 1 because I can't see it being used that often

I agree that Syers does get into the box but is that at the expense of the team? Looking at Syers record, this season he has played in 6 games, we have lost 4 of these and the 2 we won he came on in the 89th minute and he got sent off in the other. His last 2 games we have conceded 5 goals and lost both. Maybe he might be better on wing.

Did anyone really think with the team he chose we would win?

Obviously defence is what it is - and hopefully return of Ramsden might tighten defence up as in December.

Fagan being totally out of favour a surprise given PP's favouritism but playing Smalley - a target man - seems bizarre. For once Jones & Ravenhill didn't spark. I would just bring in Syers although temptation will be to bring Flynn in alongside Ravenhill.

Has Hannah got it? Seemed like he had in November but not now. Goals are drying up again.

As a negatron have to say it's looking grim - let's get Lee Clark - PP must have worst record for an "unsacked" manager. 5 wins out of 23 games - draws at home (to mid table teams) defeats away to lowly teams must mean the big R.

The boys have to get 4 wins out of next six games or we are deep in doody. Can anyone see that happening?

It's the team I would have picked but I would've started with Wells and brought Hannah on later.1st time some of them have played together eg. Fry,Atkinson,Smalley but I bet they'll click soon.

You can tell you didn't go to the match. It wasn't just the defences fault,it was the whole team. And Hannah had a couple of shots on target and off,but his 1st touch could've been slightly better.

Btw Syers wasn't playing because he got injured in the warm up.He was going to start.
