Phil Parkinson made six changes as City faced Port Vale tonight for their first game in 17 days.
Matt Fry was handed his debut at left back with Luke Oliver returning in the middle and Marcel Seip switching to the right.
Deane Smalley took over the right-wing berth from Craig Fagan, who was left out completely. David Syers suffered a knock in training so Ritchie Jones returned to partner new skipper Ricky Ravenhill.
And Kyel Reid was fit to make his first start since his Boxing Day hamstring injury.
The final change was up front where Ross Hannah got the nod over Nahki Wells.
There were more surprises on the bench with Michael Flynn and Simon Ramsden both back in the squad.
CITY: McLaughlin, Seip, Oliver, Davies, Fry, Smalley, Ravenhill, Jones, Reid, Hannah, Hanson. Subs: Ramsden, Flynn, Wells, Atkinson, Duke.
