Bradford City: Mark Lawn refuses to kiss goodbye to faint hopes of signing Andrew Davies

Mark Lawn is clinging to the hope Andrew Davies could be persuaded to stay at Valley Parade and is calling on the fans for help Mark Lawn is clinging to the hope Andrew Davies could be persuaded to stay at Valley Parade and is calling on the fans for help

City fans are being urged to show some love to Andrew Davies tonight and help persuade him to stay.

Davies has been a big success during his loan stay from Stoke and the club would love to keep him for next season.

City admit the odds are remote at best because of his Premier League wages – they are understood to be paying only a tenth of what he currently earns a week.

But Mark Lawn insists he will do everything to state their case and believes the Valley Parade crowd can also do their bit for any negotiations.

The joint-chairman said: “He’s enjoyed his football and we’re enjoying him being here.

“I don’t know what the lad’s mindset is. But if he wants to stay with us, we’ll try our damnedest to keep him.

He’s been an absolute star and I’d love him to be our captain next year. But he’s got to know he’s wanted here... let him know he’s appreciated. Sing his name

Mark Lawn

“He’s been an absolute star and I’d love him to be our captain next year. But he’s got to know he’s wanted here.

“Get behind him and let him know that. That can sway a player.

“Davies is throwing himself in front of balls for the cause so let him know he’s appreciated. Sing his name."

Lawn added: “I’d love it if we could put something together for Davies and I will try to go an extra yard to get him. But I’m not holding out a lot of hope."

"HAPPY VALLEY-EXCESS ALL AREAS!!""

(Simon Parker typing his copy to the 'T&A' from 'VP')

SP: (thinks) That's five uses of the word 'love' and one of 'kisses.' That should please the editor today!!
Now I must try and think of something for April 1st!!

Parker could just use the same story again on 1 April as it is a joke if we feel the "love" from the fans will gauge the difference in £10k p/w (est). The lad is probably on 5 figures and we will, at best, be able to throw £2k p/w his way. I think it was take more than the "love" of the fans to make him take such a pay-cut.
.
Perhaps the "futuristic" deal will help? Is Lawnee about to launch some form of 'bond' to help get signings like this, hence making his announcement yesterday, followed by this one today?
.
It would cost 8000 season tickets an extra £65 each, just to pay Davies' wages for 1 season. As good as he is, he AINT worth that..!

when does his contract at Stoke expire?

the player will have to be realistic if he is out of contarct and looking for a new club.

off subject:howon earth can Rangers owe the tax man that much? they usually chase individuals and small business for teh last enny so why has it got so deep with Rangers?

I'll show him some love....if we could hang on to him for next season then i would be like a pig in s**t!!!
.
I have reason to suspect that the 'futuristic twist' will be to contribute into some sort of player fund.

Can't see Davies staying in the bottom division next season but it will of course depend on who wants him and how much HE wants. His 4 year contract at Stoke ends in August and I can't see Stoke giving him a new contract -probably release him at the end of this season. If his 4 year contract has made him rich enough to take a massive drop in wage and he loves playing for us then there is hope. However, if another Club offers him a regular 1st team place and more money then I would expect him to go to them. He must be being watched by one or two Clubs from higher leagues and being a 'free' at the end of this season -my guess- will surely have them zooming in.
