Scott Neilson relishing return to Bradford City

Scott Neilson returns to Valley Parade today admitting: This is the big one for me.

The former Bantam is back at City for the first time since leaving for Crawley in August 2010.

Neilson had mixed fortunes during his year at the club after being signed from part-time football by Stuart McCall.

He played 30 games, scoring twice, before finishing the season on loan at Cambridge United after being sidelined by Peter Taylor.

But that has not dampened the winger’s enthusiasm for this afternoon’s reunion.

Neilson said: “I can’t wait to play up there again. When the fixtures came out, it was the first one that I looked for because I’m really looking forward to going back.

“It’s always exciting to play at Valley Parade because of the size of the crowd.

“It’s a very important game for us as well because we need to start winning in the league again. So that just makes it even bigger.”

Neilson may have to settle for a spot on the Crawley bench after losing his place to Arsenal loanee Sanchez Watt in last week’s FA Cup win at Hull.

The 24-year-old, who came on for the closing minutes, admits the Red Devils need to carry that knock-out form into the league, where they have won only one in the last six.

He added: “It’s still going well for us but we’ve slipped off it lately with a few draws.

“We are the ones to be shot at and that hasn’t changed since when we were in the Conference. When you’re at the top, you’re always having to look over your shoulder.

“Everyone wants to beat us but we’re used to that. We’re still confident of finishing right up there.

“We’d be gutted if we only ended up in the play-offs.”

And Neilson has promised a full-blooded encounter for the City faithful.

“We can only play one way,” he added. “We’re not a team who will sit back and we’ll be going all out for the win.”

Beware boo boys of not motivating yet another returning ex-bantom. Ask yourself what is the point of vocally assisting one opposition player whilst neglecting positively vocally lifting our own City eleven. There are less than a handful of the Bantoms who get this special inspiring treatment. Today all the support we can muster is needed, especially in the last 20 mins. Rock V.P at start of both halfs, get the Bantoms focussed in the zone.

It has often been suggested that visiting teams are motivated by the size of the crowd at VP. That they want to silence Our Crowd, and score in front of 'The Kop' Stand.
*
If our Supporters can continue to encourage City. THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE MATCH.Even if they go a goal down, play poorly, make mistakes etc.etc. Then constant VOCAL ENCOURAGING support, irrespective of errors, will lift our players confidence. It is ALL about how CONFIDENT the City Team that plays -feel when they are on the pitch.
*
Although up to 15 Centimetres of Snow are forecasted for today- in the North. Our Crowd will keep warm, by constantly shouting vocal support.( Plus drinking the odd beverage!!)
*
As 12th. Man-- YOU CAN WIN THIS MATCH, FROM EVERY SIDE OF THE GROUND!!.

the snow is likely to hit around 3.00pm and will be heavy: will the game get finished as lines start to be obliterated?

Freddy and total, I'd love to attend a match where our fans did just that. Oh hang on a minute, I did, in fact quite a lot, many moons ago. Oddly enough after a shaky start of the season I am recalling we went on to play the best attacking in your face football I've ever seen. Fully backed by a partisan home crowd. The Jagger season. Once that team started winning our fans were like the 12th man. There was a pre-kick off buzz, a kick off roar and then non stop chanting and support from start to finish.

We may just need the team to give us a few pointers, swift attacks, crunching tackles, tricky wing play, something to inspire the insipid and negative, something to get us on our feet.

Just hope the blud y snow holds off.

Just watched Mitre goal of the year, congratulations Omar Daley your volley is on there. Your up against some worldies, good luck.

It made me laugh though as Evans had it on the right wing, he tried to bring the bobbling ball under control, shinned it to Hunt (think it was) and he whipped in the cross.

Just reminded that normally Evans 2nd touch was normally a tackle!! :)

With City's injuries/players JUST returning from injury/potential for match having to be abandoned midway through-it looks a 'good call' all round!

Think it's a blessing in disguise as like one post says above we have players out or just coming back and really you need a fully fit squad against these lot. Plus they have slipped up lately by getting loads of draws and are desperate for wins again so think they would of spanked us today. They won't like having to come up here mid week either! Only Plymouth played today anyway!

I notice that we are not allowed to comment on the postponed game at VP. do i have to wait until Monday for a statement telling why when all covers/blowers etc are in place we cannot play football, fast track to Headingley where a rugby league game took place in freezing conditions the previous night after covering the pitch in adverse weather conditions and in front of over 15,000 fans.

The blowers were used too late. The club were too complacent. Blowers should have been used on Thursday to soften the pitch and then covers used to protect the softened area. Leaving it to the morning of the match was leaving too much to chance.

Wouldn't we have had to something to say if Crawley had wasted our travelling had the same set of circumstances applied to a trip down there?

Friday 4.36pm T&A headline BCFC confident game would go ahead and no pitch inspection planned, despite weather forcast of heavy snowfall approx 3pm to 6pm on Sat plus more freezing conditions Friday night.
I wonder how far up the M1 Crawley had travelled (or maybe they were in a local hotel ).
Captain Fagan thinks teams fear coming to VP these days - maybe Crawley were relieved it was off ??

Get over it. Even Sunday sides do their best to get games called off if they believe it's best for the team. So if it was done on purpose, great bit of business.
