Bam! Bradford City reserves floored by late penalty

Nottingham Forest winger Patrick Bamford’s 89th-minute penalty denied City reserves a deserved share of the spoils.

City appeared set to collect their first point of the new Central Division campaign from a close and keenly fought contest when apprentice Adam Robinson was penalised for a lunge inside the penalty area and Bamford scored the only goal of the game from the spot.

The line-up included trialists Sebastien Carole and former MK Dons and Huddersfield winger Malvin Kamara.

Leon Osborne and Steve Williams were also handed starting berths.

The only opportunity of note in the early moments fell to Chib Chilaka but his far post shot hit the side- netting from a tight angle.

The nearest Forest came to troubling Lloyd Saxton in the first half was through Robbie Gibbon’s 25-yard free-kick, which deflected narrowly over his crossbar.

On the stroke of half-time, Osborne raced away from the advances of Jordan Kay and into the visitors’ area. His low drive beat the dive of Karl Darlow but also beat the far post.

Carole forced Darlow into a good save early in the second half and Williams’ header from Joe Mitchell’s corner looked headed for the top corner until Darlow reached up to superbly tip the effort over the bar.

Carole had a shot hacked off the line by Forest skipper Kieran Freeman and the match seemed to be drifting to a goalless conclusion until Forest were awarded that late penalty.

City reserves: Saxton, Hudson, Harrison, Flett, Williams, Horne (c), Mitchell, Carole, Osborne, Chilaka, Kamara. Substitutes: Lewis, Elliott, Robinson (for Williams 76), Forsyth, Stephenson (for Osborne 55), Tinsley, Laifis.

Well played lads, you deserved a win tonight. Plenty of chances against a good Forest side. Seb, Chip, and Kamara looked good but Leon was outstanding!

Well, that answers my question regarding Seb Carole then. I asked yesterday if he was still on trial and, having played last night, it appears he is.
.
The Forest team that played last night was full of youth players and I can't help thinking that players like Carole, Kamara & Osborne should shine against them. The above poster said all three played well (with Ozzie in particular looking good), but wasn't that expected. If Ozzie was the pick of the three, is it time to release the other two?
