Taylor: Rumours of rift with Lawn 'a load of old rubbish'

Peter Taylor today dismissed rumours of a fall-out with joint-chairman Mark Lawn as “total rubbish”.

Taylor reacted angrily over unsubstantiated claims that he had threatened to walk out after an alleged row.

Four losses in the first five games have left struggling City already ten points behind leaders Shrewsbury.

But Taylor remains convinced he can revive the team’s present form and results.

All I can put it down to is people clutching at straws because we haven’t had the best results

Mark Lawn

And the City boss insisted that there was no disagreement with the board.

He said: “Apparently it was suggested that I’ve had a fall-out with Mark Lawn and basically told him to pay me up and I’ll go. That’s a load of old rubbish.

“It isn’t right at the minute and we all know that. But I’m very determined to turn this round and produce a team that will go on a good run.

“That’s what I’m concentrating on doing, rather than answering stupid comments on the internet.”

Lawn also laughed it off and said: “If this so-called story came from a source, then it is a particularly bad source.

“Peter had a discussion with Julian and myself last week but at no time was there anything like that mentioned.

“All I can put it down to is people clutching at straws because we haven’t had the best results.”

Taylor saw signs in the latest defeat to Port Vale to suggest City’s fortunes will change.

It was an improved display on the previous home games against Southend the week before and Stevenage.

He said: “I’ve been quite open in saying how disappointed I was in other games and the pressure was on the players on Saturday. I have to say I thought they came through brilliantly.

“Unfortunately they left somebody free from a corner that shouldn’t have been given in the first place and we know the second goal was a farce. But I thought the work rate was right and the performance definitely deserved something.

“Port Vale will be up there without a doubt but we gave them a good game. I felt that everybody could come off the park pleased with themselves because the performance was there and there was togetherness and hard work.

“It’s going to be a long haul and we know that. We obviously want to get it right come Saturday but if not we’ll carry on working until it does.”

City, one of the pre-season hot favourites for promotion, currently sit third from bottom, a point above Macclesfield and More-cambe. But Taylor has been in the game too long to panic about early league tables and is confident in keeping morale high.

“I will make sure that happens. I’ve been here before. Talking to (Port Vale boss) Micky Adams on Saturday, they were second bottom at Brighton when he first went there. Everybody was calling for his head and he ended up winning the league.

“It’s still very early in the season and there is a long, long way to go. I know that if we get it right we can go on a good run that will push us right up there.”

Cheers for clearing it up, I was starting to get pretty worried if I am honest.

Forget who started the rumour on here but whoever it was, give yourself a pat on the back for getting a story written based on your 'story'.

Hey known it all, sorry I mean Waynus, check this out.
.
Source Daily Mirror;
Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Saar wants a contract extension at the club - by hitting his 30-game target. The Dutchman, who is 40 in October, has a clause in his deal that means a guaranteed extension if he plays in a certain amount of matches.
.
Are you going to tell the Daily Mirror such clauses do not exist and you know better.

Firstly you post a comment about being worried about stupid speculation and that you are relieved it isn't true, then you turn your attentions back to me.
WHEN HAVE I EVER SAID SUCH CLAUSES DO NOT EXIST??? Let me remind your pea-sized brain of the events you are trying very hard to recollect.
.
The claim was that Brandon's contract said he had to play xx number of games OVER 2 SEASONS. I replied that that clause was unlikely to exist and it was more probable that he had to play xx number in his 2nd season to trigger the 3rd year option. You insisted that the clause was for the combined appearances over the 2 seasons.
.
I struggled to understand how any club would put themselves in a position where a player could play 35+ games in his first season, just once in his second season and auto trigger a clause for a 3rd season because a total of 36 appearances had been made.
.
I'm not getting into the debate again.... but the scenario with van Der Sar is similar to how I expected Brandon's clause to operate, not the one you described!

Thanks Peter, but no one with a brain seriously thought there was a rift. I don't think in future you should give the rumour mongers the satisfaction of responding to them, but i'm sure a lot of people will be glad you have.

I'm sure the form will pick up soon - so many of the players seem to be playing well individually, they just need to find a bit of rhythm.

Best of luck Saturday.

This is getting worse by the day!!!
Just 5 games into a new season and PT is having to come out and justify himself because of a few un-educated losers on here!
PT was on Sky Sports last night talking about the England game!
That was not because he was someone who could just waffle on about England for an hour, it was because he is a well respected figure within the game who has valued opinions!
After being treat with respect by Sky and other people like Glen Hoddle who have been higher up the tree within the game. PT then has to come back to BCFC and start justifying himself to bunch of morons who claim to be supporters!!!
A campaign should be started to get rid of the negativity around VP! I as a fan am absolutely disgusted by it, God knows what PT must think???
Start using CCTV to get rid of the negatives and BAN-THE-BOO-BOYS!

PT says “It’s going to be a long haul''. Yep that goes for ALL the teams including the ones that are at the top at the moment. Some of them will have their bad run like we are having ours. We have a proven manager, we have some good experienced players, we have some young players with potential, we have players who will work their socks off for the Team. I am confident we will be well up this league at Christmas time.

At least your post proves there is some common sense out there, even if it is highly unlikely that we, (or any club) would ban fans for booing. Unfortunately, this happens in grounds and none more so than ours. Over the past couple of seasons, the booing has reached a point where it is upsetting. No, I don't mean for the players, I mean for the fans that want to watch football without ignorant g3ts booing every mis-placed pass or shot off-target!
.
A prime example of this is the riddiculous "Taylor Out" campaign on facebook. It has already received a number of 'supporters' and I just scratch my head as to the mentality of these people.

If the wooden-headed boo-boys had there way, you can just visualise how every home game at BCFC would end up, can't you?
It would be like an episode of Saturday kitchen at each final whistle!
On Saturday Kitchen, at the end of each show, the studio audience use to hold up either a red or a green sign, voting which chief has done the best!!!
Well you can just see it now can't you?
Julian Rhodes and Mark Lawn having to come on the pitch at full time with the microphone!
"OK everyone, anyone who wants the manager to stay hold up the claret card, anyone who wants him out hold up the amber card?"
Have a bit of a count up and take the appropriate action!!!
We would have about 10+ managers per season, but at least the boo-boys would be happy!
BAN-THE-BOO-BOYS!!!

Surely he'll have plenty of time (& more need to earn his fee) for Sky duties when he gets the boot around Xmas unless he pulls his socks up & gives the team a kick up the backside they need!?!?!?!!?

Bit unfair, Taylor can only work what he has got (not much). What Simon Parker should be asking Lawn is this: Last year McCall had a budget but that never included the sale of joe colbeck. What happened to this fee? This year Taylor has a budget but that never included the sale of Neilson, what happened to this fee? Taylor needs funds for god sake give it to him or spend another year in this rotten league where there will be no more fools left to fool with cheap season tickets and then what will you do?

What is your problem with Lawn? You have been taking him to task in every post you make, without actually having any facts to back up your arguments.
.
You claim McCall had a budget that didn't include the sale of Colbeck? How do you know that? We sold Joe and brought in player(s) after he left.
.
You then claim that Taylor had a budget but it didn't include the sale of Neilson. You ask what happened to this fee? Just a few weeks ago, Taylor admitted he had over-spent when bringing in Hunt. How do you know that the fee for Neilson hasn't gone some way to offsetting this? How do you know that Taylor hasn't still got some funds to play with in the loan market? Afterall, he confirmed last week that he was close to bringing in another player and that this may still happen this week.
.
May I suggest bringing facts to the table to substantiate your claims or shut the #### up!

"we havent got the budget everyone seems to think we have" Thank god Taylors not a sheep and will say what is and whats not, even if it does upset the apple cart. Maybe so but i think we need alot more then just flynny and rambo back.
iv seen most games this season apart from torquay away. and from what i can make out theres too much inexperience in the squad, ie the goal keepers, williams, and a few others, but dont get me wrong we have some good players too, i just feel we need a decent striker moult.speight, evans, aint cutting it for me. may be hanson will be ok. out on the wing we need someone who can get good crosses in, omar has had too many chances and faile luke o brian is ok. people keep saying threllfall is a good deadball specialist but he dosnt hit every cross to a city player even hes had a few shocking performances in the last few games, the last game expecially..
in defence oliver, is ok but the rest i dont rate at all. at begining of the season i felt realy good about this season but now i think its going to be our worst season i have ever witnesed.
and i do hope im horibly wrong but so far iv not been, anyhow i shall keep the faith CTID.....

I agree with you about needing 2 wide men...
Can you honestly say Moult has been given enough game time in his CORRECT position to say he isn't cutting it?
I believe with Speight getting closer and closer to match fitness who looks like he would be a pain to defend against and Moult played in his CORRECT position, the two would make a good partnership at this level.
However we havent seen it yet so maybe I am wrong because Taylor is the expert who doesnt seem to fancy giving this ago, at the moment!

dunno fatbloke. maybe im wrong about speight and moult. but only scoring 2 goals in our first 5 league games is a major worry. and to be fair none of the strikers looked like scoring, and if peter taylor keeps playing moult in midfield i cant see him scoring either. i hate 4 3 3 and prefer 4 4 2 but he has to play people in their preferd position, last year we had evans out wide and we won 6 games on the trot. maybe he should try that again... any thoughts??

Most agree that we need some experience and ideally in a wing position. What about Andy Robinson, the L33ds winger that has been told he can leave if he can find another club. At the end of last season, he was on loan at Tranmere and played very well by all accounts.
.
Perhaps it is time to give Simon Whalley another call. Was he really that bad? At least he had pace and could cross a ball.
.
Could Taylor use his contacts to try to bring in Max Gradel on loan? Now, he is a winger that does what wingers do best. In addition, I think he can also play up front, if needed, due to his electric pace.
.
Does anyone know if Seb Carole is still training at the club or not?

Another player I have always liked, when played against us anyway, is Martin Devaney. He is a good winger and has played in the Champioinship for the majority of his career. He spent some time on loan at MK Dons last season and may be tempted to join us on loan.

Anybody else think of good quality wingers, with experience, that may be allowed to join us for a few months?

It's good that the club have put a stop to these rumours, but really they shouldn't have had to.

This type of gossip to me is just as destablishing to the club, as those numpties that boo the players.

I don't know whether they make up these rumours to try and show they are "supposedly more in the know" than the rest of us about the club, but it really doesn't help, and in fact shows the exact opposite.

As I've said before when things aren't going well there always has to be a scapegoat. So far this season, we've had Lawn, Jon Mc, Evans, Doherty, and there will be many others before it is out.

We then wonder why the players look short on confidence.

I agree with you about Whaley and would love to see him have another go. He looked impressive at Dale (creating loads of chances for their strikers) and I'm surprised he hasn't yet got himself a deal yet. However, from what you say, it looks like he could be snapped up by Bury shortly.

Turning to the issue with wingers, I'm not convinced that Osborne is the answer. Happy to be proved wrong and agree he should be given time, but I'm just not hopeful. As for Evans being on the right..... according to you, he hasn't got a touch, has poor control, doesn't have a footballing brain or positional sense. May as well play Daley there then!! LOL
