John Hendrie: Bradford City players should feel at home at Valley Parade

Playing at Valley Parade should be a pleasure for City not a chore.

Club legend John Hendrie cannot understand why anyone should be worried about home games.

City host Port Vale on Saturday with Hendrie urging them to “relish” the opportunity of performing on the biggest stage in the division.

Hendrie said: “Players have got to be brave and not have that fear factor. They should relish playing at home.

“I’m a bit surprised with the start. I thought that after finishing last year in a very positive manner, they would take that into this season.

“But nobody has a divine right to be winning games and sometimes it can take a few weeks to get going because of the system, injuries or players catching up fitness.

“I wouldn’t set any alarm bells ringing just yet. You look at the likes of Southampton, who are very much the same as City in their division, already getting rid of their manager, which is absolutely outrageous.

“It is such a long, long season and other teams will still see Bradford as a team capable of doing something.

“But actions speak louder than words.”

City managed only two shots on target in the games with Stevenage and Southend. T&A columnist Hendrie is as mystified as the fans at how the team could suddenly go missing after playing so well in the Carling Cup ties against Nottingham Forest and Preston.

He added: “They gave a really good account of themselves against two Championship sides in the cup but couldn’t take that into the next games. If you can’t take any confidence or belief from that, what will give you confidence?

“The two worst performances have been on the back of their cup exploits. We were awful against Stevenage too.”

As a former manager himself, Hendrie can fully understand Peter Taylor’s frustration over his side’s inconsistency. He believes it is time they put it right this weekend.

“It’s up to the players themselves. The manager can’t do it for them. They’ve got to go out, roll their sleeves up and work damn hard to make things happen.

“It just needs that little spark to get the season up and running.

“They will have had eight days to prepare for this one. Hopefully they can get a good performance under their belt and move on from there.”

Clearly this is all Lawny's fault.

Next season he should consider selling only 27 season tickets instead of 10,000 but at £750k each, that way the club doesn't lose out financially and the poor players don't have to worry about playing in front of a big crowd.

Simples !

I do not macca1969, but I hope your right.
I hear most the players do not like playing for Taylor and things are not great in the changing room!!
After recent performances and been told that last night from a source I very much trust, I can't see results getting much better very soon.
I really do hope I am wrong.

if players dont like playing for PT then they should realise it's their careers that are at stake here and grow up.....or maybe go get themself a job in a call centre somewhere - my heart bleeds for them.
I could understand why certain players dont like playing with other players i.e. dohery - the guy must wonder what he's got himself in for. I know he hasn't set the world on fire but a player like him needs intelligient players in front of him who show movement so he can find them rather then players who think they are in the playground all shouting for the ball at the same time whilst not been in a good position to receive it.
And Moult he must be wondering why he's moved clubs to almost play as a winger.

Absolute rubbish fatbloke, considering all of stuart mccalls players that might not have liked him were released and the rest of the players re-signed or came from clubs where he had managed before just to play for him. I hav full faith in Peter Taylor! It's just the players are playing ****!

I Can't beleive the post on here we are 4 league games into the season and already players don't like PT and some sort of conspiracy going on. Come on get real this is basically the same team that went 6 unbeaten games at the end of last season and beating promotion sides. If you lot had been in charge they would have sack Paul Jewel before he had a chance. City always play better against better opposition so lets see what happens against Port Vale. I remember a cold night at odsal tip when we played Carlise and the only highlight of the game was a John Hendrie screamer if you had blinked you would have missed it and had a different perspective on the game. So give the team a chance 42 games left. neck-room very apt pass code

i hope that statement is just sarcasm macca1969, because considering your home record being (a little indifferent) and Vale's away record over the last two seasons being one of the best in the league I really would be concerned about the timing of playing vale at home. Good luck for saturday by the way

players with feelings:they don't like playing for Taylor but are more than happy to pick up wage packets and a life style way beyond what the vast majority of supporters want.

if it is the case that the dressing room is lost ( and I have heard similar rumours) then the players have to realise that for virtually all of them there is only a couple of places to go after City and that is playing non league football or the dole queue.

Some, to my mind, should be there anyway but, at present they are not, and they should be putting in decent shifts.

And before you ask, no I don't know if it is 100% right either, but what I do know is my source has told me things in the past prior to them happening so I have no reason to disbelief them and yes it has come from the dressing room.
.
Please don't tell me it's absolute rubbish unless you can back it up, ie you work at the club or you have also been told by a trusted source. My instinct is you think it is rubbish.
.
Disagree with me by all means it's what the forum is all about.
Remeber though I am a fan that wants things to be turned around, not a sh!t stirring Leeds fan.
.
I whaley hope I am proven wrong but can't see results turning around that quicky. Not when we have a bunch of whimps in the side who are scared of the crowd and the manager!!
.
Thought I would copy Waynus in breaking up my post (nice one Waynus, why did it tke any of us so long to work that out).

if i was PT i'd honestly show the knobh**ds in the dressing room the door because lets face it if we have players in there that don't want to play for a respected manager like PT then they don't belong at this club and if PT did that and was open and honest with the fans and told us why, would city fans be happy with that??? i certainly would rather then turning up and watching these so called pro footballers give p!ss poor performances. if this is true they really need to grow up.

Gspot - I completely agree with you and some other comments today.

If these players do not like having a very respected, experienced and professional manager (who can make them better players) in charge of them then all that proves is they are not very professional themselves and therefore do not have aspirations of getting promoted.
It should be all about work not play and if they can't handle that then they are not professional and as Tyker says there is only non professional footy or the dole queue for them.

It angers me if this rumour is true as we pay hard earned cash to watch them (it cost me £200 in fuel to get to Torquay + £16 to stand in that sh!t hole) and they can't actually work for their money and have no aspirations of improving by working hard with a manager who can improve them and therefore in my eyes don't belong in a promotion chasing team - get shot if they are unhappy, they can have my job if they like then they will really know what being unhappy at work is like!!!!!!!!!!!

Cut out the rotten core before its too late!

It's no wonder they are scared if they read only 10% of the slagging off they get on various message boards including this one. They are kids playing at the lowest league level/entry level. I've said b4 if i was 22 and starting a new job and saw my name being dragged thru the dirt on every other message board, it'd prob knock my confidence and make me a bit nervous too!!!

Just scrolled through todays comments bigstar and can't see any slating today of players or are you referring to previous comments on other stories?

In my opinion the majority of our players do not have the intelligence/footbal
ling brain to follow Taylor's tactics, it's a 2 way thing and therefore I believe becasue of the players at our disposal we revert to basics

Fingers crossed for Saturday

I'm completely baffled as to how in the space of a few months Peter Taylor has allegedly gone from a top manager who players want to play for, to a ranting bully who has lost the dressing room?! Surely these rumors can't be true??!! I hope not. I've never read anywhere else of this kind of thing from Peter Taylor so I find it hard to believe he could change after being at Valley Parade for a few months.

I still maintain he will get things right & we'll be up near the top come the season end & all this negativity will be long forgotten. I really hope I will be right.

Me too Eccy....
his previous teams have been pretty succesful which also suggests intelligent enough to understand how Taylor likes to play and the nasty side may not have been needed every week!!
.
re my previous post about going back to basics ie 442, my concern there is while Leon is injured we have to play to wingers who are not wingers, Evans and O'Brien and I was pretty dissapointed we didnt bring anyone else in, especially after Lawn was quoted ' 1 out and 2 in' does that suggest Taylor didnt want anyone or the right person(s) was not available or at the right cost to the club?

Comments in general, this players rubbish, that player is useful. I don't think they're all great but as i like the team and therefore the players, i tend to keep it to myself.

We're not going to have great players, we're still in L2.

I just wish ppl were a bit more patient, they are a young team, we're missing 2 influential players, it will be daunting for them playing infront of 10K and I like JH wish they'd relish the experience, but maybe it's just going to take some time, and if we really get behind them, maybe that will speed things up.

I recon as Vale are a better team in this div, we'll do better agianst em. BCFC have always done better against the better teams, which ever team or year i think back to.

i fully agree about people being negative towards the players...i admit i don't like evans and have always been honest it but if he or any other player read these boards then surely it's up to them to have the have the 'i know i'm good and i'll show em' just like many of us have to do at work each day.
.
if it is true that they don't like PT then i urge them to find somewhere else asap, again like many of us have to do in our day jobs - just because they are footballers doesn't mean they should be treated any different - as it seems that this is the attitude they have.
.
i have always said that i am willing to cheer on any city player who gives 100% regardless of results and that includes evans who i don't rate as a player.
.
.
regarding fatblokes comments about players having the brain/intelligence to follow the tactics of PT then I think Doherty is the perfect example who has shown that compared to somebody like Daley.

No I'm serious i just think we play better against teams that are better as in the cup games. I don't believe all this about discontent in the camp as Taylor has signed all players that have played under him before. The others have signed long term after playing under him last season. I'm not saying it certainly isn't true more i choose not to believe it.
