CITY 2 ALDERSHOT 1

Omar Daley capped his first start for Peter Taylor with a spectacular goal against Aldershot this afternoon.

The Jamaican smashed a 25-yard screamer as City came from behind to make it back-to-back home wins under Taylor - and the first time they had achieved that in a year.

Aldershot, who had beaten the Bantams 11 days ago, had carried on from where they left off at the Recreation Ground with an eighth-minute opener.

Matt Glennon should have done better with Scott Donnelly's shot but pushed it out only as far as Anthony Straker to force in.

But City were level six minutes later with a goal wonderfully worked by the two strikers.

Michael Flynn found room on the right touchline to deliver the perfect cross which James Hanson powered home.

Then Daley made it 2-1 after 21 minutes with a strike into the top corner.

Incredibly it was the first time this season that City had scored twice before half-time at Valley Parade.

Daley was replaced by Gavin Grant just after the hour and left to a huge ovation.

But Aldershot, pushing hard for the play-offs, should have equalised midway through the second half but substitute Marlon Jackson headed wide of a gaping goal.

City came under pressure in the closing stages but saw it through to make it four wins out of seven for the new boss.

"Omar Daley capped his first start of the season with a spectacular goal against Aldershot this afternoon."

Ahem, Simon, it was Daley's third start of the season. He started against Lincoln and Bury (H).

Great performance by the players today against tough opposition. Thought Hanson was brilliant

Good match, Daley worked hard to get back too, sat back a little but i guess this was Taylors tactic to have everyone behing the ball, Oliver reminds me of a Weatherall player.

My dads has uploaded a video of city in the in UEFA Intertoto Cup back from 2000 against Zenit St Petersburg, Can anyone spot a Fat Mark Lawn. Hes also got the match of england v Germany where the city players where involved that comin soon!

Hanson was very good today and a good solid professional win which i think we will see many of the same kind under Taylor.

Taylor said on the radio driving home that Ramsden has a calf problem and will miss next weeks game. I thought Bateson looked very comfortable when he came on.

i heard that Thorne and Boulding were released and left the club today before the game not sure if 100% true but the person who told me has no reason to lie. makes sense to me as the appearance money from these 2 and brandon are been used to fund the loans or save the club some money and if Taylor doesn't have them in his long term plans makes sense even more. good luck to them a bit gutted thornes never got chance to make it 200 career goals as i believe he ended last season on 198.

Previoulsy predicted weeks ago when I knew Brandon would not play again, Thorne and Boulding would not be required under Taylor.
Not only does this save the club money in what is really a pointless end to the season put allows Taylor to show the chairmen what he is about which is what he had to do in the 15 weeks.

The defence looked very organised on saturday and the goals where very well taken and at last we are looking like we are a big threat from corners. The ball isnt always getting launched up to hansen all the time which has taken alot of pressure off the lad. The city side seems to be getting much taller now and it looks like its working a bit better with a few bigger players in the side. As for the playoffs......No, I would rather wait for next season and if we can keep hold of Taylor then i see no reason why we cannot get top 3 in the league. There will be more defeats to come this season but at least we have something to cheer at home. Keep it up city.

I am not certain that the players have been paid up as that would have meant a capital payment out of the club immediately. more like that they have been put on "gardening leave2.

Taylor will have told the Board that they no longer feature in the current plans:they will not be in any future plans so there is no point working with them as they are not going to contribute anything at all. If any of them should find a club then their contracts would be cancelled by mutal contract enabling them to join other clubs as free agents.

it was a win with two great but different goals
but that last minute miss from Aldershot!! where was our defence? questions need asking.

Hanson's header reminded me a little of Bobby Campbell: he came in late and hard for it and there was no way he going to miss. This lad, with proper coaching, has a great future in the game
The others that are probably not going to be here and who not future in first team plans are needed to fulfil reserve fixtures.

A win is welcome and the two goals were terrific. However, it was still a negative showing and Aldershot must be kicking themselves for not getting a point (more comedy striking!). An encouraging display from Oliver at the back and Threlfall and OB on the left looked solid. A pacy striker to partner Hanson and we could have a decent balance on the pitch.

City lack pace up front and hopefully this is something that PT will address. The team need an outlet as the ball just kept coming back. The Aldershot opener was virtually invited as city had all their players in their own half. Omar really needs to work on his diving though; perhaps we could get Edinho in to do some coaching...

a win, or a draw or a lose

"It was still a negative showing", I don't ever remember you being as scathing in criticism over your beloved McCall.

I had no problem in you defending Stuart, but to come on here now criticising Taylor, seems like double standards to me.

I think Taylor's made a pretty good start to his reign. Four wins from 7, only 2 of those games being at home, 1 victory at a side that are likely to be champions, another at 1 who will be in the play offs or better, and the 3 defeats away from home against teams who were above us in the table. Let's also not forget that this is not is team.

Given the chance next season which I hope he will be, I'm confident he will take us into the play offs or better, and make a mockery of the underachievement that there was under McCall.

Until then I will come at with such classics, as "Rome wasn't built in a day", "we have no money to spend" etc, etc.

Webess is right. All you ever do is moan and slag off our players and staff. Injuries happen in football and given the choice you can be pretty certain that Thorne would rather be on the pitch scoring goals than injured.

I agree a new keeper if we are not going to give mclaughlin a chancenace: I hope we can keep Threlfall. Boulder and Oliver but we do need another central forward with a bit of pace. Hanson will improve with proper coaching and will hold the ball up better.

Flynn looks like he is now playing for a contract and I think we should keep him with Bullock who has improved this last few weeks.

think i was slagged off for saying this before, but i think Daley should be given a run up front. he is great at going past one man and getting shot away. also we could have a proper midfielder on the right. lets be honest they were much better than us in the middle!

Sure it was far from perfect, but much more positive than the displays under the previous manager.

Or perhaps you preferred the insipid performances pre PT.

Waynus you are really are a sad individual. Try telling me which bit of my post you disagree with? Was it an attack on the manager; don't be ridiculous? Are you going to ignore the positive comments reagrding the play of Oliver, Threlfall, OB and Hanson? Are you going to ignore the"hopefuly PT will put this right?!"; of-course you are. Double standards; I think that you invented double standards Waynus.

It was a negative performance; 5 attempts on goal in 90 minutes against the 10 attempts for the away side. We defended their first corner with all 11 men in out own penalty area - we were supposed to be at home. Compare this to the home games against Crewe, Rotherham or Shrews where we created close to 15 chances per game.

It's a different way of playing and so far it is more effective. I however am not going to start talking rubbish about promotion next season just because we have a new manager so in response to Bradford 1903; I think you need to look up scathing in a dictionary (or refer to the way that you used to comment on McCall). You also need to read previous comments stating that I would rather have PT as manager over McCall because of his record; my comments are based on my view of the game; it was not exciting although if you disagree with what I say then please state why instead of just having a go at me for being a fan of McCall....

There was more than a hint of sarcasm in my post, so I wouldn't take the use of the word scathing too literally.

Granted there are some positive comments, but I can't ever remember you once criticising Stuart, yet you seem happy to do so with Taylor.

I don't expect it to be pretty under Taylor, but I believe it will be effective.

I thought the difference between this and the Crewe, Rotherham and Shrewsbury games is obvious, we won, and I'd take winning football every time.
