CITY 0 BURY 1

Stuart McCall's reign as City boss was in doubt after another home defeat this afternoon.

McCall deliberately went to every stand at the final whistle to applaud the supporters. It looked very much a gesture of farewell.

Andy Morrell's 52nd-minute strike earned promotion-chasing Bury a league double over the Bantams. It also stretched City's run without a Valley Parade win to seven games.

Now the spotlight is back on McCall after the Bantams failed to build on last week's dramatic victory over Torquay.

City certainly battled away against their high-riding opponents as they had done at Gigg Lane a few weeks ago.

They also had the chances to fight back from Morrell's strike after the defence had been opened up by Stephen Dawson.

Gareth Evans went close three times, Zesh Rehman - playing at right back - volleyed straight at keeper Wayne Brown and Luke O'Brien lashed narrowly over.

Then deep into stoppage time, Peter Thorne flashed a free header agonisingly wide.

McCall had asked for the backing of the fans - and made a point of walking around the pitch to clap the stands afterwards. It was the most obvious sign that his time is coming to a close.

When asked afterwards if this was his final game, McCall would only say: "We'll see."

Stuart's applauding of the fans said it all at the end. That's the end of an era and frankly I am not convinced that the future is encouraging, irrespective of who wants to be manager.

I must have been to a different game today if you thought city were crap! If a neutral was watching the game today I don't think they could of told you which team was higher up the league. They only had one shot on target (and scored, yes I know) all afternoon, and this from a team who have come off a winning result against Rochdale. Just a shame Stuart is going to go after this as this line-up and commitment will surely win more than they will lose. My ratings for the player's today:-

Matt Glennon 6 - nothing to do all afternoon. Unlucky when rushed out to smother attack that ball ran free to scorer.

Zesh Rehman 4 - weak link in defense. Positional play and judgement poor.

Luke O'Brien 6 - tried hard to get forward when he could.

Matt Clarke 8 - best game for a long time. Made some timely tackles, especially one in his own box in the first half.

Simon Ramsden 7 - Mr consistent didn't do much wrong.

Lee Bullock 5 - poor for me today. Dwelled on ball too long and didn't really get into the game.

Michael Flynn 9 - for me MOM. Worked tirelessly all game and used the ball well. Should be skipper.

Omar Daley 4 - very disappointing. Didn't track back and looked disinterested.

Gareth Evans 8 - another player who worked hard for the team. Had a chance that he should of done better with.

Michael Boulding 6 - kept quiet all afternoon really from Sodje.

James Hanson 7 - Played ok after injury. Needs to be more lethal in front of goal. A couple of chances came his way.

Keep the faith!

You can't fault the lads for their effort today, but we just lacked that bit of quality.

Bury had only one chance all afternoon, and won't get a more fortunate 3 points all season.

I thought we defended a lot better, but these occasional lapses are still costing us, and O'B was the wrong side of their man for the goal.

Bury showed that you don't have to be a particularly good side to be challenging for promotion in this legue. They are strong, physical and well organised, everything that we are not, and these are the attributes that get you out of this Division.

Stuart's applauding of the fans seemed to be a last goodbye, and this was more or less confirmed in his post match interviews.

A sad day for the club.

I thought we were the better side again today against Bury. The defence looked stronger and Matt Clarke played well but why was Rehman playing right back. I can only think Political pressure is forcing Stuart to pick him because it made no sense at all. I waited behind to applaud Stuart as i knew straight away fom his actions that he was going. He looked the fans straight in the eyes and emotionally said a farewell and thankyou to the fans. I don't care what other posters think Stuart but you can leave with your head held high its been a pleasure having you as manager and as a player. All the best

Well it's more messing than winding up, and yes it is a sad day, I'm gutted for Mc Call and for the team. It's a shame that others can't see the funny side, and take things far too serious.

f.a.o. MAFIA, we was at the same game we just have a diffrent opinion, as i said we were crap,,as i said we were better at the back and we did make some good chances and we should have won, but yes i still think we were crap because we could have stuffed them and didnt, if we had played well there is no doubt we would have beaten them, we did play better no doubt about it but we are still way off the mark, i admit they were awfull and looked like a team who where there for the taking,
i notice you gave zesh a 4??? how do you work this out? he played right back and looked like a real threat going forward, made some good tackles, and looked alot better at right back than at centre back, also you gave evo an 8?? and said he missed a good chance? he missed 2 clear cut chances maybe 3, one of them looked like a back pass to the keeper more than a shot, so did the striker deserve an 8 when he didnt do his job and score? like i said, same game mate just a diffrent opinion, do me a favour a think back to the last time you actually watched city play well and win and then compare that game to yesterdays and then think about weather we were crap yesterday. one thing we do agree on is flynn for captain.

off course its a wind up. not very original and anyone can do it. Not even clever either. however i disagree with you on this one he's not funny. Needs work on his content and delivery if you ask me. You could argue that Shaun the sheep does the same but better judging the amount of response he gets. Even your mate waynus might just be a great big wind up. Now that would be funny after all this time. If i won the lottery i would s*d off somewhere too, i was only trying to help him work out how to spend it 'cos he doesn't seem clever enough
