City’s youth team’s hopes of meeting Arsenal in the third round of the FA Youth Cup were shattered by Crewe.
Ryan Harrison scored for City to take the game into extra-time but the Railwaymen finished up 2-1 winners and will face the holders in the next round.
The match was switched to Gresty Road after two previous attempts to play the tie at Valley Parade were thwarted by the weather.
Youth-team coach David Wetherall said: “It was disappointing to concede from two set-plays but I thought the lads were great.
“They deserved something and we can take a lot of pride from it.”
