City’s plans to ease their injury woes by adding a fresh face on loan have been scuppered – by injury.
Stuart McCall had targeted a short-term recruit to boost numbers hit by the recent glut of unavailabilities. But the winger in mind has been ruled out after getting injured himself.
McCall said: “I made an inquiry about bringing someone in for a month but then the boy got an injury as well. It’s just our luck at the moment.
“The deadline for loans is the last Thursday in November and he won’t be ready by then, so we might have to look elsewhere.”
McCall has used only one loan so far this season with goalkeeper Simon Eastwood but his squad plans have been stretched in the last few games.
Midfielder Leon Osborne faces a lengthy absence after damaging ankle ligaments in the reserves at Grimsby on Tuesday.
McCall admitted: “There are no bones broken but ligament damage can be just as serious. He got it in a crunching tackle.
“We’ll know a bit more when the swelling settles down but it’s looking like being a long one.”
Omar Daley could be back in action for the reserves later this month, with the home game against Rotherham on November 25 the most likely target.
McCall said: “Hopefully we’ll see Omar getting a few games in the next month. Thorney (Peter Thorne) also should be on his way back.
“We will assess the situation after Saturday and see how things stand.”
